PALIN SMEARS OBAMA WITH YEAR-OLD DISCREDITED ATTACK

I am very disappointed with McCain/Palin using this attack. McCain knows the civilian causality issue via lack of troops is common knowledge and not debatable among anyone who knows about the problems in Afghanistan. I was very supportive of McCain when he ran against Bush and now this is the final straw for me. What happen to the John McCain that put country first?

PALIN/MCCAIN SMEAR!

HP-During an appearance on Fox News this Friday, Sarah Palin claimed that Barack Obama should be disqualified from serving as president because he had once proclaimed that troops in Afghanistan were “air raiding villages and killing civilians.”

If the charge seemed oddly and painfully familiar it’s because it has been levied at Obama – and subsequently dismissed – several times before during this election season.

THE FACT CHECK:

AP-A check of the facts shows that Western forces have been killing civilians at a faster rate than the insurgents have been killing civilians.

The U.S. and NATO say they don’t have civilian casualty figures, but The Associated Press has been keeping count based on figures from Afghan and international officials. Tracking civilian deaths is a difficult task because they often occur in remote and dangerous areas that are difficult to reach and verify.

As of Aug. 1, the AP count shows that while militants killed 231 civilians in attacks in 2007, Western forces killed 286. Another 20 were killed in crossfire that can’t be attributed to one party.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai expressed his concern about the civilian deaths during a meeting last week with President Bush.

Bush said he understands the agony that Afghans feel over the loss of innocent lives and that he is doing everything he can to protect them. He said the Taliban are using civilians as human shields and have no regard for their lives.

“The president rightly expressed his concerns about civilian casualty,” Bush said of Karzai. “And I assured him that we share those concerns.”

WHITEHOUSE-…PRESIDENT BUSH: Let me comment on the civilian casualties, if I might. First, I fully understand the angst, the agony and the sorrow that Afghan citizens feel when an innocent life is lost. I know that must cause grief in villages and heartbreak in homes. Secondly, I can assure the Afghan people, like I assured the President, that we do everything we can to protect the innocent; that our military operations are mindful that innocent life might be exposed to danger, and we adjust accordingly…..

Palin will say whatever she is told to say.

What was that again??? Something about a pitbull and lipstick…

It’s true, a pitbull will sometimes attack irrationally, and without cause.

Then the owner has to take the dog out back and shoot it…

The sad part comments like this do put troops in danger!

  4. captain_menace says:

    How so John?

    Our troops are killing civilians.

    We acknowledge this.

How does this put our troops in danger?

This is just about the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard of. It rings of the book 1984:

    War is peace

    Freedom is slavery

    Ignorance is strength

I don’t buy your argument for one minute. Americans (and the world) deserve to know when armed forces are killing civilians. Period.

I don’t need to be a Christian to know that killing civilians is wrong, and hiding the fact is just as wrong.

I’m a little disappointed in you John.

Because without dealing with the truth we only put troops in much more danger. The American people must understand the issues not talking points! We need more troops or we should get out. The current plan is only putting kids in danger while their country spirals out of control.

Maybe I misunderstood? Whose comments were you talking about?

After a comment like that, I strongly urge a total boycott of anything said by, or about, Gov. Palin.

That was mine. New apartment, new connection, new operating system, same old mistake.

    I was talking about McCain/Palin.

  10. Aubrey says:

    John

I can guarantee that we don’t have any “kids” serving in our armed services.

  11. captain_menace says:

    Sorry about the misunderstanding John.

David, don’t be too hasty. I like saying things about Palin.

Palin is a little like Pamela Anderson, but not as hot, and not as smart.

Where are you at David? Somewhere in Asia?

Do you mind sharing how much apartment you get for you dollar over there?

    Cap’n,
I’ve been in Hong Kong since before we mistakenly gave Ronnie Raygun a second term.

2,500 sq ft in a good area costs $4,000 to $15,000 a month. Mine’s in the middle, since we don’t have a pool or gym in the building.

And, yes, since you asked, the GOPers did in fact raise my taxes last year on the portion of my pay that is called “housing allowance.” They lied and broke the constitution to do it, but since it only affected Americans living overseas, no one — including Congress ! — knew what Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa did to us.

    How is the food?

  15. David O'Rear says:

Awesome! We’ve got the best of everything, except (*sob*) Mexican.

Those who shop in the fresh markets (i.e., farmers’ markets) pay less than half the grocery store price, but it helps if you (a) aren’t squimish; and (b) speak Cantonese.

  16. David O'Rear says:

“Walter Annenberg, a lifelong Republican and former ambassador who was appointed by Presidents Nixon and Reagan, funded an ambitious program to reform urban education in many cities in the mid 1990s. Ayers was an important member of the group that developed and wrote the grant proposal to the Annenberg Foundation.

Regardless of his background, it was never a problem for anyone — including Republicans and Chicago’s most powerful business leaders — to work with Ayers on Chicago’s public schools. In fact, Ayers is widely respected in the field of urban education.”

That particular slur against Sen. Obama dies, now.
