Schumer: Senate Should Seat Al Franken

Should they seat Franken?

AP-New York Sen. Charles Schumer said Sunday that Democrat Al Franken is the clear winner in Minnesota’s Senate race and should be seated as soon as possible. But a leading Republican lawmaker said calling the race for Franken would be premature.

Schumer, who until recently was the head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, made his statement a day after Minnesota elections officials completed the re-count. The latest numbers showed Franken with a 225-vote lead over Republican Norm Coleman.

The state Canvassing Board is expected to certify the results of the re-count Monday, then there will be a seven-day waiting period before an election certificate is completed. If any lawsuits are filed during that waiting period, certification is conditional until the issue is settled in court.

“With the Minnesota recount complete, it is now clear that Al Franken won the election … and while there are still possible legal issues that will run their course, there is no longer any doubt who will be the next Senator from Minnesota,” Schumer said. “With the Senate set to begin meeting on Tuesday to address the important issues facing the nation, it is crucial that Minnesota’s seat not remain empty, and I hope this process will resolve itself as soon as possible.”

Didn’t Franken win at least as fairly and squarely as Bush did in 2000?

Don’t we normally seat the winner?

  2. bb says:

Hell yes, seat him. He’ll fit in with the rest of the losers comprising that body.

And no, he did not win in the same manner as Busn ‘00. Check all the stories about ballots mysteriously found in poll workers trunks, etc.

But by all means, give him the seat…an unfunny, failed comedian, failed talk show host, tax owing moron will be a great representative for the state of Minnesota.

  3. David O'Rear says:

    bb,

Real basic stuff: losers don’t get seats.

  4. Aubrey says:

It’s funny how more people voted in some districts than were even registered.

But, Frankin can’t do any harm to the least approved of Congress of all time.

  5. captain_menace says:

    He’s good enough…

    He’s smart enough…

And doggone it, people like him.

  6. Bill says:

If it causes one person to say “Hey wait a minute, politicians are idiots” than I think it’s worth having Frankin seated.

  7. bb says:

    DOR,

Real basic stuff: Franken is an abject failure in the private sector so he will fit right in with the rest of the failures in the senate…Seat him here, Seat him now, Spend mo’ money!

  8. David O'Rear says:

“an abject failure in the private sector” ?

    .

What’s that mean? You don’t like his brand of humor?

    .

Tough. Millions of people know who he is and like what he does.

    .

    Get over it.

  9. bb says:

    DOR,

What part of Seat him here, Seat him now do you not get? I support you…he will fit right in with the rest of the failures/losers in the U.S. Senate on both sides of the aisle. There is but one senator with any credibility at this juncture, Tom Coburn…the rest couldn’t get jobs at a local car wash.

    Bart

Would you call Rush a failure since he made his money the same way via entertainment?

  11. bb says:

No John, Rush MADE money and CONTINUES to make money.

Franken tried talk radio, failed miserably. He tried being a comedian, but wasn’t funny. He will now try being a senator which is likely to be the most humorous thing he has ever done.

  12. JohnKonop says:

I am not a big Al Franken fan but he did have a very good career as an entertainer. In fact he had best seller book “Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot.”

I am sure Franken made enough money that he does need to work again. And unlike Rush he was not busted.

  13. bb says:

    Not busted…hmmm — http://www.theamericanmind.com/2008/04/29/franken-owes-taxes-to-17-states/

John, your jealousy of Rush’s success on the radio permeates every post you contribute about him. Face it, you and Al Franken both wish you could be 1/100th as successful on the radio as Rush.

  14. David O'Rear says:

“Real basic stuff: Franken is an abject failure in the private sector . . . ”

    .

    It’s official, folks.

    bb has lost it.

  15. JohnKonop says:

Why would anyone be jealous of Rush? A guy with a drug problem and a major problem with women?

  16. bb says:

Good question John, why are you jealous of Rush?

    The $350,000,000 contract?
    The 20,000,000+ listeners?
The 500+ stations carrying his show?

Not bad for a guy with a “drug problem” and “major problems with women” (which means exactly what, he has so many women chasing his rich fat ass that he has problems choosing which one to take home???…you only wish you had that problem JK).
