Rep. Michael Burgess, Republican from Texas states the “we are under martial law as declared by the Speaker last night.” I’m not sure what that means but here is the video.

CONGRESS DECLARED MARTIAL LAW LAST NIGHT!
Update:
‘Martial Law’ In The
House Of Representatives
Congressman Michael C. Burgess, MD
9-29-8WASHINGTON, DC — Under the martial law procedure, long-standing House rules that require at least one day between the unveiling of significant legislation and the House floor vote on that legislation so that Members can learn what they are being asked to vote on are swept away.
Instead, under “martial law,” the Leadership can file legislation with tens or hundreds of pages of fine print and move immediately to debate and votes on it, before Members of Congress, the media, or the public have an opportunity to understand fully what provisions have been altered or inserted into the legislation behind closed doors. This is the procedure that the Leadership intends to use to muscle through important bills in the next two days.

Here’s the youtube link.
And I think that martial law thing refers to House Republicans only (Congress), and not the entire country. Pay attention to Burgess’s remarks. The House republicans are being forced to stay to vote on the bill they haven’t even seen yet.
There is some awesome technical analysis of the current financial crisis over at YouTube by the Khan Academy.
Just select any of the videos with the word Bailout in the title. It looks like this guy has about 10 or 11 different 10 minute video clips describing the technical details of why Wall St. has seized up.
What kind of politician would vote “yes” on a bill he hadn’t even read yet? The same kind of politician that would vote for the Patriot act. These fools have all gone nuts. No. The Ron Paul supporters are not the crazy ones. Not by a long shot.
Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 This is a section-by-section analysis, but only six pages long.
Enoy.
Baldwin/Castle ‘08. Nuff said.
It must be that new spirit of bi-partisan cooperation that Pelosi said she would bring to the House. Maybe it just went down the drain when she was trying to drain the swamp.
Question: How do you help Pelosi drain the swamp and get rid of Charlie Rangel?
Answer: Make a bigger drain because apparently he stopped it up.
How about we give some credit to those normally spineless 228 representatives in Congress who voted down the Paulson plan?!?!
Whether they were truly outraged, or they were just covering their own asses for election season, I’m glad they shot Paulson down.
If you want to provide credit to businesses and consumers, there are much better ways than funneling $700 billion through insolvent investment banks who have already proven that they can’t be trusted.
