U.S. President-elect Barack Obama and his defeated Republican rival, John McCain, are engaged in somewhat of a rematch. The two are trying to help their respective parties win a razor-close U.S. Senate race in Georgia.
McCain has accepted an invitation to attend a rally in Atlanta on Thursday for Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss, while Obama aides are being dispatched to the state to provide a hand to Democratic challenger Jim Martin, a former state senator.
A Dec. 2 runoff is being held because neither Chambliss nor Martin obtained the majority required under state law in the Nov. 4 election to be declared the winner.
As evidenced in MN, the obama cultists don’t seem concerned with downticket races so this might work for Saxby. Of course, if the GOP doesn’t show up once again then Martin may pull it out.
After 6 years, this is all Saxby has to run on…pitiful.
He stated yesterday that his record is that of a fiscal conservative…I call bullshit!
This will likely be the first election of any kind that I have not voted since 1980 including runoffs, local referendums, everything. Saxby deserves to lose, he lied to Georgia voters and worse, continues to blatantly do so in the runoff campaign.
Yet the GOP is rallying around him…what a bunch of schmucks. As Newt said earlier this year, “Real Change requires Real Change” — Saxby represents the worst in the Republican Party and should be sent home.
I am a social conservative, but I find Saxby to be reprehensible. I will vote only if he agrees to never run again, find another job for his lobbyist son, and work his tail off to free Ramos and Compean.
I think Saxby will win by a decent margin if only because there is no Obama at the top of the ticket to attract dem voters.
And yes, it is highly probable that social cons will show up. The GA GOP is mounting a huge GOTV effort aimed directly at these reliable GOP voters.
Speaking of social conservatives many of whom are women, I wonder how many noticed the news yesterday about GA Southern Baptists voting yet again to prevent women from leading a church?
In GA, he helped. His GOTV efforts in urban areas increased black voting strength enough to keep Martin in the race.
But ultimately it was Saxby’s fault. He received 180,000 fewer votes than John McCain who is not exactly the favorite of conservatives in GA. Saxby only needed 8000 more votes (less than the difference between he and McCain in both Gwinnett and Cobb Counties) to avoid the runoff.

bb,
Do you think the social conservatives will show up for Saxby? Obviously, the voters that fell like you aren’t going to.

bb,
Obama didn’t really help downtickets. Lots of his followers are cultists who came to vote for him but no one else.
Southern Baptists? No suprise there. It took them almost 150 years to say that their support for slavery was wrong.

I think I’m going to form a ‘Gang of 1′ to protest outside the big GOP “Victory Rally” tomorrow afternoon — http://www.saxby.org/News.aspx?t=2&a=641&m=11&y=2008
It is time for conservatives to take a stand against BS Republicans like Saxby. If he wins the runoff, the status quo will continue.

Hmm, sounds like there might have also been Dems who split their ticket too.

Who will win?

Weren’t the Republican’ts asking President-elect Obama to work from the center, embrace all sides and put aside partisanism?
.
I guess the Party of Hate still has a ways to go.

Which is the “Party of Hate” and why?
