Air America Radio files Chapter 11

From AP

NEW YORK – Air America Radio, a liberal talk and news radio network that features the comedian Al Franken, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, a network official told The AP.

The network had denied rumors just a month ago that it would file for bankruptcy protection
The network will stay on the air while it resolves issues with its creditors, Horn said. In addition to Franken, the network also features shows from liberal talk show host Randi Rhodes and syndicates shows from Jerry Springer and Portland, Ore.-based talk show host Thom Hartmann.

Is this the end of liberal talk radio? Why did Air America fail?

Al Franken ran out of funny.

I had high hopes for Air America — and I still think there is a huge market for non-faith-based radio.

But listening to Franken, I sometimes worried he was going to fall asleep in the middle of a sentence. He was not made for radio. Air America needs some real radio personalities, that’s all.

  3. Where did they go wrong?

They put people on air that were actually honest about where the Libs stand on issues, and well…..people didn’t want to hear it. The Dems who run for office and the ones who get elected are never this honest on the issues.

    LeftHook-

as for a market for non-faith based radio– WOW! LOL! It’s called FM…..Talk about TRASH- yikes! Thank God for ONE station on FM safe for me to have on in my car- The Fish.

I was getting some good stuff from Air America. I thing “progressive” would be a better word. But my AM radio at home wouldn’t even go up that high (1690) It’s getting wierd when a conservative Republican has to go to Air America to hear Al Frankin with a guest from the Cato Institute critisize republicans at the top.

Rumor has it Clear Channel wants to buy Air America.

  6. Bill says:

My favorite was Randi Rhodes. She’s hard core. I dare anyone to call her un-patriotic. Nothing wrong with spending some time in the “enemy camp” to get some new info. My core beliefs aren’t going to be changed, so I’m not worried about that.

If clear channel does buy them, I wonder who they will bump to put on AA. I think clear channel is already running some of the shows and has bumped Rush Limbaugh in some areas.
