Alamo Rent a Car Must Pay Muslim Woman $288G for Banning Scarf – Another case of what is wrong with American Law Gone Bad
288G – Gee, that is a lot of money for probably what is a low paying job. What kind of jurry would do this?

Alamo Rent a Car Must Pay Muslim Woman $288G for Banning Scarf
Saturday , June 02, 2007
A federal jury in Phoenix decided that Alamo Rent A Car must pay a Muslim woman $288,000 for firing her for wearing a head scarf during the holy month of Ramadan.
Bilan Nur was fired just four months after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. She had worked at the company’s Phoenix offices since 1999.
Then 22, Nur complained to the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which sued the company for what it called a “post 9-11 backlash.” The suit says she was fired in violation of the Civil Rights Act for exercising her religious beliefs.
A federal judge agreed last year, ruling that Alamo was guilty of illegal discrimination and did not try to accommodate her.
A jury started hearing the damages part of the case on Tuesday and reached a verdict Friday.
A spokesman for Alamo declined comment.

PC GONE WILD!!!
How do you come up with $288G as compensation? How many scarfs can you buy with that?
Right out of CAIR’s playbook— Sharia by judicial fiat. The US better get a grip and open our eyes to what is going on with Europe’s Muslims and their attempts to have European courts acknowledge sharia law–multiculuralism trumps nationalism is the recipe for the total destruction of this country.
hoads, could not agree with you more. Multiculuraism kills a society.
hoads,
You can thank your buddy Jerry Falwell. When you don’t have separation of church and state then this is the natural reaction.
Good grief, it’s an employment issue. Should you fire someone because they are Catholic and wear lace during lent?
REMEMBER THE ALAMO!!!!!!!
Caroline, what do you mean about post #5?
On post #6, I agree, it is an employment issue and employees ought to be able to say “this is our guidelines and don’t even apply for a job if you don’t like them”.
Taxi cab drivers in MN refusing to drive people if they have alcohol or a dog???? The fact that they are foreigners in our country and came here by choice but are not willing to accept our society is an outrage.
Just curious was the ACLU prosecuting this case? Since they defend the religion that discriminates.Of course Caroline doesnt see the Hijab as sign of womens submission to men. After all it was a man that commanded women to wear them!
preussow,
You don’t know that England and some of the other European countries don’t have separation of church and state? When fundamentalists have won cases in the separation of church and state arena, well the muslims are using those same laws to allow themselves religious accomodations just like Christians.
As far as assimilation goes, first generation immigrants never assimilate. They don’t learn the language etc. As far as culture, we don’t have a coherent national culture in the US so it’s kind of a moot point there.
Caroline this is not assimilation, This is sharia law that Islam is trying to impose world wide. The hijab is that symbol. I wish I could post the picture of the woman beaten bloody in Iran because her hijab didnt cover her hair. If thats the law you want all women to live by then support this case.
You are talking nonsense. It’s an employment issue and if everytime a muslim wins a court case you are going to wet the bed then go ahead and buy stock in depends. I know the fundies like you want the country to become like Iran but if you are going to freak out about someone wearing a stupid headpiece then you need some valium.
Caroline read Sharia laws and then call me names. Its people like you in England that is turning that country into an Islamic state and by using English laws to do it. This is another chip out of the stone.
Mike,
As I have said time and again-Do you realize that England does not have separation of church and state? And don’t whine when you have been supporting fundies whose agenda is idential to fundamentalist muslims-the fusion of church and state. You whine about how Christians are victims and Muslims get everything-well that’s the exact same whine Osama uses to rally the troops.
Quit voting for fundies if you are so concerned about this stuff.
Caroline its your parties state sponsored ACLU that is helping the Islamic Sharia laws introduction into this country by taking cases that degrade women to 2nd class citizens. this case is prime example.
Mike,
You are being silly. The ACLU is about CIVIL LIBERTIES. This lady sued because she wanted to wear the scarf not because she was forced to wear it. She was fired for wearing it. Did you even read the story? Real slow now:
When you don’t have separation of church and state every religion gets a place at the government table unless what you really support is a theocracy like Iran. Actually, I think that’s what you do support-only a Christian version. Theocracies are bad news no matter what religion they espouse.
(Alamo rent-a-car)
Caroline, post #10. If you can not assimilate, stay where your from, don’t come here or any other country because you want a better life.
I agree with Mike that this muslim invasion is using countries own laws against them, brick by brick, trying to make that country adapt to their views and religion.
ACLU may at one point been needed, just like unions to to be. It is now evil and just one of the many problems this country has to fight.
Really if you are worried about muslims using the countries laws then you should be mad at people who are trying to fuse church and state not people like the ACLU who are against church and state. Apparently, you don’t understand the concept.
You are missing my point on assimilation-it takes a generation to assimilate. Besides what do you call assimiliation? It seems some people use religion, some use language etc. Everybody has a different defintion.
caroline,
Please outline where attempts have been made to fuse church and state by President Bush.
So Caroline, you don’t see muslims migrating to other countries around the world, including our country. You don’t see them forcing their views and in effect religion upon others where they have migrated.
Guess it is ok for them to come to this country and then decide as a taxi driver, if you have alcohol or a dog, I’m not going to drive you. If you a a cashier and a customer wants to buy pork, I’m not going to ring you up. Or demanding a seperate swimming time/place for females.
I’ll repeate Hoads question, please do outline the attempts to fuse church and state.
This country was founded on the belief of religion freedom, but also in religious values. Slowly, religion, Christian values are being torn down and taken away by groups like the ALCU. And it is only the Christian religion being attacked, under the guise of being politically correct or seperation of religion and state.
preussow,
What about the fundamentalists who refuse to fill birth control prescriptions? Isn’t that the same thing? They are American citizens who are refusing to do their job because of their religious beliefs. That’s my issue-you guys whine and whine about fundie muslims but have no problem with fundie christians.
Hoads,
One word: Teri Schiavo. One whole department: Justice. Everyone working in Iraq had to pass a religious litmus test. Once again, you guys whine and whine about muslims and their stupid litmus tests but are notoriously silent when it comes to American fundies.
caroline,
Nothing you have mentioned is evidence of an attempt by Bush or Republicans of Christian fascism.
Terri Schavo—mistake for Congress to intervene into what should have been a state legal issue but nothing about it infers an attempt to interject Christianity. Right-to-life, quality of life issues are not relegated to religious domain. Our government provide guidelines/laws for a just society and the moral/ethical issues implicated in Terri Schaiavo are relevant towards that end.
I don’t believe anyone should have the right to refuse to perform work responsibilities based on religious beliefs. They need to get another job that does not interfere with their religious beliefs. That goes for Chrisitan, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, etc.
Caroline, post #22, that is wrong. And don’t take me wrong or as a fundamentalist. I’m not that. I am for pro choice, which is the only kind of petition I support that I do not forward to others. It is a very decisive issue.
I actually have problems with fundie anything.
I do have a problem with a fundie who wants me dead because I’m not his fundie friend and follow his beliefs.
I like wine, maybe you ought to have some cheese with yours.
Teri was a pull the plug now issue – no hope.
Hoads, Bush has never attempted to push the country to a religious right. He just believes in God, and that is his God given right.
Unless a fundie Muslim wants to kill him for it for not believing only to their views and religion.
I agree with you on post #24.
I thinkith Caroline is one some kind of mission. One that blinds you to seeing what the comments are about, and twisting them into attacks.
Kind of reminds me of my ex-wife.
And I’ll say again, this country was founded on religion. And religious freedom. That is what the early Americans wanted, not to be prosecuted for their religious beliefs, which in my mind, fundies are against.
