‘Betray Us’ ad unites GOP, distracts Dems

I do think this ad steps over the line on the Iraq debate. What do you think?

Politico-To judge from the wall-to-wall coverage of MoveOn.org’s full-page ad in the New York Times Monday, the liberal group strolled to the 18th hole up by two strokes, pulled out its driver and shanked one deep into the woods.

The solidifying beltway consensus is that the ad, which refers to General David Petraeus as “General Betray Us,” was a blunder of the highest order, uniting Republicans and distracting Democrats at a time the party could instead be pressing for an end to the war.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) both distanced themselves from it, while Sens. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) denounced it. “I would have preferred that they not do such an ad,” said Pelosi on ABC’s Good Morning America.

    Steps over what line, exactly?

Do you think you might feel differently if you had to hop in an under-armored Humvee this morning and patrol Baghdad as part of the US mission to…to…to what exactly?
