British alarmed by global warming
London — The British government warned Monday of an economic catastrophe if the United States and other large countries fail to quickly cut emissions of the gases blamed for global warming, and Britain named former U.S. Vice President Al Gore as its adviser on the issue.
“If the science is right, the consequences for our planet are literally disastrous,” Prime Minister Tony Blair said in releasing the report. “This disaster is not set to happen in some science-fiction future many years ahead, but in our lifetime.”
Former Vice President Al Gore will advise the British government on global warming issues.
Highlighting the different path that Blair has chosen on climate change from that of President Bush, British officials announced Monday that Gore would offer advice on the issue.
A 600-page report by former World Bank chief economist Sir Nicholas Stern predicted that unchecked global warming would eventually cost the world between 5 percent and 20 percent of its gross domestic product each year, an impact comparable to that of the Great Depression of the 1930s.
Do you think global warming could lead too a world wide depression? Will this issue effect the 2008 Presidential election?

Bob,
Are you saying Tony Blair and the former World Bank chief economist are liberals?
I’m surprised you didn’t blame global warming on Bill Clinton.
Scientist are no longer debating whether global warming is real. The debate now is on how to reverse it.
I applaud Tony Blair for taking a stand. This is another area where BUSH will go down as the WORST President in U.S. history. He has an opportunity to make a difference and he’s blowing it while only giving lip service to alternative technology. If he was serious, he could ramp up clean green technology to make a further impact by reducing our dependence on foreign oil which could benefit a reduction in global warming.
This is a global problem.

Renewable clean energy should be a high priority of every administration moving forward.
New Solar and Geothermal solutions look pretty promising.

Talk is cheap. Thirty-five years ago, kids were doing science fair projects on solar and thermal energy. I know. I was one of them.
And in thirty-five years, nothing has been done to make alternative energy a major viable sorce of energy for the masses. Sure, kids can make solar powered cars from a hobby kit and maybe there’s an office building somewhere running on energy from landfill gasses and concerned movie stars can afford a solar home, but the majority of people in our country do not have those options.
What will it take for clean energy to become the norm?

Jace,
You do not exist based on statistics.
You’re 1 out of 6 billion.

Jace,
Why do you think global warming is a myth?
Mad Dog,
Your number is off about every 2 seconds.
