Bush blasts House for ‘wasting time’ on investigations
Is this a waste of time?
THEHILL-President Bush on Tuesday slammed Congress for not getting its work done and focusing too much on investigating his administration and repeatedly attempting to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq.
“We’re near the end of the year, and there really isn’t much to show for it,” Bush told reporters following a meeting with House GOP leaders.
“The House of Representatives has wasted valuable time on a constant stream of investigations, and the Senate has wasted valuable time on an endless series of failed votes to pull our troops out of Iraq,” the president said.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) rejected Bush’s attacks.
“The president calls congressional oversight that has uncovered tens of billions of dollars in waste, fraud, and abuse in Iraq a ‘waste of time,’ ” Pelosi said. “We call billions spent in no-bid contracts to Halliburton a waste of money.”

I guess the investigations must be scaring him or something. It’s easy to win on that issue when you’re investigating an unpopular President.
Yes, it is a waste of time and money. Nancy’s Congress is losing support with every action (or lack thereof). I just hope they stay on this path through 08 with the mother of all tax increases in the forefront of the debate. What a bunch of dumbass losers!
These “Congressional investigations” are usually a joke anyway. Why don’t they bring in a “neutral party” like Interpol or something. Because in reality Washington D.C. has become a massive cancerous criminal enterprise. True American patriots rarely make it in this cesspool.
Congressional investigations about as useful as ‘Blue Ribbon Panels’ like the 900th one proposed by Hillary to study Social Security (she joins with the ‘conscience of liberalism’ Paul Krugman in saying Social Security is solvent, one of the best programs ever…blah).
bb,
LOL! Investigating illegal wiretapping of American citizens is bad according to you. Yes, let the GOP campaign on that one. There’s a reason the GOP loses on every issue. And you’re proof of it.
BTW, the GOP also loses in the area of taxes. It all comes down to the fact that the GOP has proven they can’t manage money.
Thanks again for the insightful response caroline. Your sheer brilliance is only surpassed by your laughable adoration of a criminal candidate.
Do you agree with Hillary that Social Security is not a problem?
Bill, in his post #3 stated the following:
“…in reality Washington D.C. has become a massive cancerous criminal enterprise. True American patriots rarely make it in this cesspool.”
Caroline, bb, etc., Bill’s comment is 100% spot on. And Bill said Washington, D.C., because it’s BOTH parties! It’s so sad the partisans have these massive logs in their eyes! Not just sad for the individuals, but more so for the Nation.
bb,
You wouldn’t know a criminal when you saw one. You think the current idiot in the WH is a perfect example of morals-WOW! Why is Bush asking for immunity from prosecution all these congressional bills ? Hmm, you think he might have broken quite a few laws during his time in office? Torture? Illegal wiretapping? War criminality? I could go on but I’m sure that you would do nothing but apologize for the behavior.
Damn Constitution gets in the way of EVERYTHING !
caroline,
Do you agree with Hillary that Social Security is not a problem?
bb,
Right now it’s not. It’s not supposed to have problems until something like 2040. And the GOP solutions of cronyism is not the answer though I’m sure you support it.
Really, the GOP has proven themselves completely inept when it comes to the numbers.
Funny, yet another parallel to my country, Australia.
A current affairs here, 4 Corners, did an episode just this week on a $6 billion purchase of stopgap Superhornet aircraft way outside of usual tendering procedures. Murky stuff and the name Cheney got mentioned, along with our own beloved leaders, who are his ideological and attitudinal fellow travellers.
Much of the ordinance we’ve purchased recently is poor stuff, yet being allies we’ve reached the stage where we won’t consider even British or French alternatives.
I don’t mind us “buying American” if it works for our needs. I don’t blame americans because of the stupidity of my own government.
But I understand why American citizens who wonder if they also are seen by the powers that be only as unlimited cash-cows, might be demanding a few answers from the relevant people, because in my country many of us are feeling the same about our leaders, who also seem to have the same casual attitudes toward the rest of us.
“We call billions spent in no-bid contracts to Halliburton a waste of money.”
Uhhhhh, was the money just slid to Haliburton under the table or was there a service or product provided in return?
Paul Walter
It’s all about Australia for Australians. Anything else would be BS. Of course the English speaking nations of the world will always have their ties and similarities. No bid contracts and insider deals only destroy what made our countries great.
Yes Bill- and that includes genuine rationalism and consciousness, including genuine economic rationalism.
“To err is human” is not to mean we can ever afford to cease vigilance because that is the cost of freedom.
