CBS Fires Imus

Do we live in China now? Are we aspiring to be more like North Korea? I think I missed the memo that stated controlling and restricting free speech is a good thing.

Story here…

Do you think he would have been is such hot water if he’d just called them “ho’s” or “nappy-headed gals” instead of “nappy-headed ho’s”?

    CBS’ loss is SIRIUS’ gain.

I’m just stunned that American’s aren’t as interested in the fact that a radio icon was fired after more than 40 years on the air, because he stated three words in less than a second of actual airtime, that some people took PERSONAL offense to. I’m personally offended that CBS would fire him. So can I demand the CBS heads be fired? I’m personally offended that I have to listen to all the lunatics who pushed for his firing, and their shoddy, poorly thought out, pathetic arguments to support that desire. Can I ask those responsible for me having to read that crap be fired?

Why is it that this kind of action is taken only SOMETIMES in response to SOME people being personally offended SOMETIMES by SOME comments…? I’m so tired of the total lack of logical thinking in our country today. All anyone cares about is money and who screams the loudest. Pathetic.

  4. Imus had the freedom to say whatever he wanted to on the air for 30+ years!!! Nobody from the government came to CBS and demanded he not say something.

If advertisers don’t buy up spots, CBS can’t make money on the show.

This was the market speaking out against a racist who crossed the line one too many times.

Don’t be mad at CBS for not holding onto Imus out of principle, but direct your anger at the sponsors who pulled out and Imus himself.

If the idiot hadn’t gone on Sharpton’s show, he might have had a chance. It’s is own fault. Has everyone here heard his interview? He said worse things on that interview than he did on his own show…at one point referring to Sharpton and a black female congresswoman on the phone as “you people”…

It’s the equivalent of John Konop going on a drunken tirade against lesbians on the air, then going onto The View for a one on one with Rosie O’Donnell, only 10 times dumber, since Sharpton was probably just as bad if not worse.

Well, just speaking for myself, the answer is “yes.”

Al gets it for $100. It’s called the free market. Businesses are free to hire and fire for a number of reasons. Offending customers is a great reason to fire someone. I wish Imus worked for me so I could fire him.

If I was a betting man (which I’m not) I would bet that Imus will be on the airwaves again very soon. Don’t get your panties in a bunch gmbreak.

Imus is about to make more money than ever.

    I smell a book.

That’s sort of my point. Imus didn’t offend his customers. He has/had millions of loyal listeners. The people who took offense were not his listeners, but their reactions decided this outcome. Which is why I have a problem.

I’m not a fan of Imus, I’ve never heard his show even once. But I’m just so sick and tired of things being decided in this country based on the PERSONAL objections of a SOME people. It defies logic. He’s been on the air for 40 years, has millions of loyal listeners of all ages, one of the most highly respected (awards) and recognized radio icons in the industry, but the entire world spins out of control over how a few people who are not even loyal listeners of his show reacted to a three word sentence? Are you serious?

“This was the market speaking out against a racist who crossed the line one too many times”

I disagree. The market wasn’t speaking out against a racist. I’d venture to say that most of the people involved in this behind the scenes have no problem whatsoever with what Imus said and were more surprised at the reaction of some folks than we can imagine, including the advertisers. What this is was a case of advertisers, being scared by the very possibility that a few people who didn’t like Imus or his comments wouldn’t buy their newest product. Nevermind the fact that for every person who won’t buy a product, there’s a person who will. All that matters is that they make a very “public” display of pulling their ads, so they can get advertising without even advertising. They get their names in the papers, etc. seeming to be “noble” because they stood up against the big bad radio man.

I’m sure he’ll have plenty of opportunities now that his show is cancelled. I’m not concerned for his personal welfare, I’m just sickened by how this played out. I know this is how we should have expected it to go down, it just really bothers me that the system is the way it is.
