The Neocons do not like Powell or Paul because they spoke out about the issues in Iraq.

  2. caroline says:

Okay, it’s basically that they don’t “tow the party line” then?

  3. Bill says:

You people who talk about Islamofascism are usually the biggest Christo-fascists this country has. And if you actually knew anything you would realize that our nation building is the perfect fertilizer for Islamo-fascism. Western meddling is usually (if not always) followed by religious fundamentalism. Of course this is no problem for those who use biblical prophecy as a guidebook for military strategy.

    John,

    Moving the goal posts again?

Now Iraq is the entire Middle East.

You have never been able to defend your line of reasoning on “containment of the Middle East.”

BTW, the Middle East includes Israel. So Reagan was containing Israel? You’re a policy idiot.

    Hoads,

    From Bush’s mouth

    “No connection.”

White House Press Conference with Tony Blair. Tony Blair supported the No connection statement.

When the Bush Administration says it, even then you don’t believe it.

    (U) This intelligence assessment responds to senior policymaker interest in a comprehensive assessment of Iraqi regime links to al-Qa’ida. Our approach is purposefully aggressive in seeking to draw connections, on the assumption that any indication of a relationship between these two hostile elements could carry great dangers to the United States.

    # (U) We reviewed intelligence reporting over the past decade to determine whether Iraq had a relationship with al-Qa’ida and, if so, the dimensions of the relationship.
    #

( ) Our knowledge of Iraqi links to al-Qa’ida still contains many critical gaps DELETED

    (U) Some analysts concur with the assessment that intelligence reporting provides “no conclusive evidence of cooperation on specific terrorist operations,” but believe that the available signs support a conclusion that Iraq has had sporadic, wary contacts with al-Qaida since the mid- 1990s, rather than a relationship with al-Qaida that has developed over time. These analysts would contend that mistrust and conflicting ideologies and goals probably tempered these contacts and severely limited the opportunities for cooperation. These analysts do not rule out that Baghdad sought and obtained a nonaggression agreement or made limited offers of cooperation, training, or even safehaven (ultimately uncorroborated or withdrawn) in an effort to manipulate, penetrate, or otherwise keep tabs on al-Qaida or selected operatives.

There goes the bad code again.

  9. hoads says:

    Mad Dog,
Your posts support exactly what I wrote in my post—-there are definite connections between Hussein & Al Qaeda that go back through the 90’s but intelligence has not established a collaboration between Hussein and Al Qaeda and 9/11.

“Some analysts concur with the assessment that intelligence reporting provides “no conclusive evidence of cooperation on specific terrorist operations,” but believe that the available signs support a conclusion that Iraq has had sporadic, wary contacts with al-Qaida since the mid- 1990s, rather than a relationship with al-Qaida that has developed over time. The ‘No Connections” has become a soundbite meant to imply that Hussein and AlQaeda did not have any previous relationship and that is not the case. There are reams of intelligence data that documents multiple interactions between Hussein and AlQaeda.

But, I just wonder what Sandy Berger stole from the National Intelligence Archives and cut into little pieces -I guess we’ll never know……….

    Preussow,

You didn’t read the source material.

Your quote comes under the heading of “purposefully aggressive in seeking to draw connections.”

Even when “purposefully aggressive,” no connections were found.

You ignore “no conclusive evidence of cooperation on specific terrorist operations.”

In your loose interpretation, there are connections between George W. Bush and al-Qaeda. Reems of connections through associations with the Saudi Royal Pain In the AZZ Royal Family.

What are the nature and extent of the connections between the entire country of Iraq and the entire organization of al-Qaeda?

As described above, “sporatic, wary contacts, rather than a relationship.”

    No connection. No relationship.

    Not even to Sandy Berger.

So detail ONE interaction of Hussein and ah-Qaeda via an actual document.

Not a sound byte from the radical conspiracy theorists.

Pick your ONE SHOT at fame very, very carefully because I mean interaction, connected mutually-timed actions.

None of the BS that Hussein was in Moscow at the same time that the second cousin of the Saudi Royal family was in Moscow.

  11. Mad Dog says:

Sorry Preussow, that should have been directed at hoads
