Elizabeth questions Limbaugh’s draft deferment

Politico-An Air America producer just sent over some transcript from an interview their Richard Greene (not our Richard Greene) conducted with Elizabeth Edwards, in which she questioned Rush Limbaugh’s Vietnam exemption:
My classmates went to Vietnam, he did not. He was 4F. He had a medical disability, the same medical disability that probably should have stopped him from spending a lifetime in a radio announcer’s chair; but it is true, isn’t it? If he has an inoperable position that allows him not to serve, presumably it should not allow him to sit for long periods of time the way he does. I think this is a serious enough offense for the people who fund him, who buy ads and allow him to be on the air, need to be asked if this is what they really stand for, do they think it is all right for someone who has never served to denigrate the men and women who have simply because they are expressing an opinion. Frankly, I thought that is what we are fighting for.
In the interview, Edwards also suggested that John Kerry shouldn’t have conceded when he did in 2004.
RG: Were you disappointed that Sen. Kerry conceded as quickly as he did?
EE: I was very disappointed, not just because we did not count the votes, but because we promised people that if they stood in line and fought for the right to vote, that we would fight with them. And I was very disappointed that the decision was made by the campaign, over John’s objection, not to fight.

AND: Snopes.com has the details of Limbaugh’s draft status, and concludes that he was legitimately ineligible for the draft, though it also says his own responses to the question have been “unconvincing and dissembling.”
And John Edwards recently criticized Limbaugh’s “phony soldiers” remark.
When leftists are proved to be lying fools, they do two things immediately;
1. Attack the people who used truth and facts to prove they are lying fools.
2. Call the truth-teller names and question and impugn anything they can about his integrity.
The good news here is that they’ll lose again and be shown to be lying, idiotic fools. I hope they continue. It bodes well for the other side in the next election.

First, who cares what Elizabeth Edwards thinks…did she serve in Vietnam…did her husband?
This from a family that believes government schools should teach 2nd grades about homosexuality…time’s up John and Lizzy, go back to NC and chasing ambulances.
Why all the attacks against Rush? Are the left wing nuts so afraid of him illuminating their faults? How moronic can Mrs. Edwards be to continue harping on a made-up issue that has been debunked hundreds of times? To continue to use the “phony soldiers” comment, in this construed context, only serves to highlight how desperate liberals are to and to what depths of deceit they will go to silence the likes of Limbaugh.

They have to find SOMEONE to attack. It’s the left wing way. Oh, by the John, if you’d bother to do any resarch on the subject, you’d find that Rush had a physically disqualifying condition (UNLIKE your hero Bill Clinton).

I don’t understand the ((“left” primarily,)) cyclical nature of loathing, then loving ones military record in regards to the Vietnam War.
It was the young hippy liberals who first Loathed both the soldiers and the war, back in the sixties while it was still raging. Many of those same leftists used every deferment trick in the book to get their fannies in school or up to Canada.
During the eighties ones service during the war became the fashion of the day, for the left in particular, and they began denouncing the right for not serving, when they also didn’t want to serve.
A poor leftyright winger probably fought side by side while the WASP’s and the Limousine Liberals argued the academics of it all.
If I had been of draft age during that time, heck I would’ve tried to get out of serving also. It was a terrible waste of fine young men and women.
So if Rush had a deferment, or got out in any way short of deserting, more power to him.

Gene: All true, of course. But the difference is, Rush dodged the draft and then runs around telling people what a real soldier is and isn’t, and encourages others to do what he didn’t under the same circumstances. That makes him punk and pussy.

No Caroline – YOU could say that. Don’t lump everyone else into your socialist closet. If any of you would care to do some research, you’d find that Rush had a PHYSICAL deferment. What did the hero of “El Lewinsky” Bill Clinton have? Oh! I rememeber now…..a student deferment that allowed him to go and insult the U.S. in OTHER countries.

I wasn’t even out of diapers when Rush was hunting up a deferment..but does that mean that I can’t tell that Jessie Macbeth lied about being a soldier? The fact that Macbeth is a phony is fact, not a matter of expert opinion or not.

I had to face the draft back in the day. Nods.
It was very easy to be FOR the war at 16. But, …
I remember the underground newspapers, the ‘long hairs,’ and the senior dudes who did not want to be drafted. Way, way back when I was just a freshman. I would speak out for the war and the seniors would shake their heads and maybe shout at me.
I had an uncle who served in the Guard to avoid the war. And, an uncle who did two tours.
My uncle the Marine … they’re still looking for him, I guess. Maybe not. I don’t even know anymore. Hell of a thing overall.
I’m sure, Gene, that we can find hypocrites on both sides. The business men I know that dodged are now rah rah warriors as fake as Aubrey’s Jessie Macbeth. I had the short hair. They had the long hair back then.
I did the straight arrow path.
They did the drugs, the music, the free love. And, now they deny that past.
I pity them. We, myself included, should remember our mistakes and our past.
But, in the dog eat dog mentality, it’s all about getting an advantage in the moment for yourself. Not at all about some noble action for the greater good.
I never served. My draft number was too high.
My thoughts were very clear, though, Gene. At the time.
So I’ll agree with you in part. I would not serve in the Marines. I could have done the Army. Or, the Air Force.
That was the advice from family and friends. Don’t go unless you have to go. If you have to go, don’t go Marines or Navy.
That was the word from those who served in combat. Maybe it was geared directly to me. Maybe it was general information.
It became a decision I never really had to face.
But, to your point, it must have been a very tough decision for some.
Did you know that over 500 men have been arrested and convicted for falsely claiming the Medal of Honor?

To be convicted, so I’ve been told, the accused must have been photographed wearing his fake medal.
What does that tell you about our lack of real men, if anything?

I may not agree with you at times but I respect your service. The difference is Rush is all over questioning patriotism of anyone who disagrees with him on the Iraq war .And when Rush had his time to serve via Vietnam he did a cut and run with a F4.
If Rush told people he did a cut and run and than made his points he would not be a hypocrite!

here’s the difference:
Media matters created this whole ordeal, they purposely missued a statement that Rush said in order to generate this kind of backlash. They thought it would work because people don’t do their own fact checking, besides, most lefties want to believe this kind of stuff about someone like Rush.
Now, the people that Rush criticizes (Murtha, Kerry, Reid, Macbeth) have actually said denigrating remarks about service men and women, on the floors of the Senate!
Sorry, John, but that is a HUGE difference.
