Flake criticizes GOP earmark strategy
Lawmakers want their pork!
THEHILL-While House Republican leaders touted their push for a bipartisan moratorium on the use of congressional earmarks, at least one conservative member vocally criticized the move as not enough.
“We really missed an opportunity,” said Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.). “Had we gone for a moratorium…in the end [Democrats] would have had to follow our lead.”
Flake indicated that the major flaw was that the moratorium was largely contingent on whether Democrats would capitulate to the Republican political pressure.
“Republicans and Democrats seem content to play out the Alphonse and Gaston routine on earmark reform – ‘You first.’ ‘No, you first,’” said Flake.

Jeff Flake for VP!
Flake will be known for the Flake-Guiterrez open borders, amnesty for all. He should not throw stones in his glass house. I consider him a traitor and anyone who votes for him deserves to be living in the barrios he wants to create.
GA, racism is a great tool for the rich elitist. It turns color against color and it helps to mitigate class uprisings. As long as you’re busy fretting over poverty-stricken Mexicans you won’t notice the billions being funneled directly out of the tax coffers and into the pockets of Wall St.
When it comes to potential uprisings, you are the buffer between poor Mexicans and the rich elite (except the rich elite do directly enjoy the fruits of the Mexican’s labor).
You and Hugh have bit, hook, line, and sinker. Keep hating the darkies… everything is going according to plan…
When I asked Jeff Flake at a meeting if we were going to legally immigrate 67 to 100 million more people to replace the 78 million retiring, he said, “we need a lot.” When I asked if they were seeking that many to keep workers to retirees at 3 to 1 for social security, he said, “we need a lot more.”
Sorry, but I can’t support Jeff Flake for anything. Those numbers mean adding 1/3 to our population when you consider our own birthrate and that of those who would immigrate here. That means 1/3 more prisons, hospitals, government services, roads, cars, power plants, etc.
We can’t even keep up with the 100 million we added since 1950 and this will be another 100 million in 1/2 that time.
captain_menace,
Be careful when you assume – you know the reason.
One of the most outspoken critics of illegal invaders is Lou Dobbs – who so happens to be married to – a LEGAL Mexican.
Apparently your neighborhood is not drowning in illegals who live like they are in a 3rd world country – gang graffiti, trash, cars/trucks parked over areas formerly known as lawns, loud music and even an occasional roasted goat.
I could care less what class of our society benefits from their criminal activity. I want my country back, our sovereignty secure, our borders defended, and at least a couple of employer/offenders taking the perp walk. I do not approve of a slave labor class of workers no matter what color they are.
I want a nation worthy of my grandchildren. And, Jeff Flake is a traitor.
We have 80% of our outstanding murder warrants for illegals. We have had more than one police officer killing due to illegals this last year. We have a jail full of illegals.
Yet, our Representatives, who include Jeff Flake, fighting for keeping those illegal aliens here.
You have a leading GOP candidate for President calling for their staying and yet, doesn’t call it amnesty.
The loans from illegals to the general fund, I believe, are one of the main reasons those Representatives don’t want them to be deported. It would make the budget deficit look even worse because those loans are counted as part of the deficit like foreign loans are.
should have been “those loans aren’t counted as part of the deficit”
WE WILL BE SOLD OUT ONCE AGAIN
You got that right Joe. Both parties are controlled by the international elite that one the North American Union.
Maybe they hope the current financial crisis will keep voters minds off immigration but, I think and hope they are wrong. But, no matter who gets elected, I can see Congress continuing to try and sneak through an “amnesty” but not have it called that.
Flake’s position on immigration from his website — (not exactly the open borders guy some of you portray) — ‘There is perhaps no issue that is more pressing, particularly to those of us who live in Arizona, than that of immigration reform.
I think all of us wish that we could wave a magic wand, or build a sturdy fence, to solve our immigration problems. But of course, a problem this complex requires a comprehensive solution – one that involves (1) better border security, (2) a realistic mechanism to deal with some 12 million illegal aliens who are currently in the United States, and (3) a meaningful temporary worker program (with serious employment verification and enforcement) to ensure that we don’t end up in the same situation years from now.
Amnesty is not the answer, but neither is pretending that we can solve the problem simply be implementing the current law. We have to find common ground that respects both reality and the rule of law. I have introduced comprehensive immigration reform legislation in each of the past two congresses, and will do so again this year.’
He – like all traitors – lies.

There are far too many real clues left behind. You need to get one.
And for all you Ron Paul fans, Flake was formerly Executive Director of the Goldwater Institute.
Here’s your clue GaP — Sure Flake tries to address the problem in a reasonable, common sense manner so naturally everybody forgets all the work he has done to stop pork projects.
You isolationists are so myopic in your assessments, you will never, ever be able to find another candidate to support. Must be a bitch!
Bart the problem is that “reasonable and common sense,” means letting them stay.
They broke the law and the fact that it would cause huge problems for this nation isn’t an excuse for allowing them to stay, is it?
For example it costs more to try somebody if the death penalty is sought than if it isn’t If the person committed a crime that justifies the death sentence, you don’t avoid it just because it costs more, do you?
Well, that is what Congress is saying. They are saying it would cost more to deport the 20 million than to put terms on their ability to stay, like learn the language, register, pay a fine, etc.
You don’t support that just because it saves money or is a “feel good policy,” do you?
Send the home, and pay the price of 20-30 years of bad policy. It it causes the implosion of the smoke and mirrors they created for social security, so be it, right? If it causes some problems, it also solves others, especially in costs related to caring for illegals in poverty.
Flake’s approach is “reasonable and common sense” according to whom?
Sounds like you are a slave labor employer. Reasonable depends on which side you are looking at.
End ALL benefits for illegals – schools for anchors and all healthcare except for actual emergencies, life and death – and they will self deport. And considering each illegal costs us $20,000 per year, plus the destruction of our schools, neighborhoods and hospitals, there’s your social security shortfall.
JP, GaP,
This has been argued ad nauseum and there is no doubt I am in the minority on this blog.
There are at least 20M people in America who are not properly documented. 95% of these people work hard and stay out of trouble.
Illegals represent at least 5% of the American workforce. This will naturally decline as a result of the slow down in new housing starts and all the ancillary businesses that support the housing market. Thus some will go home as is happening in AZ right now.
To think we can economically, feasibly seek out 20M people and deport them is absolutely ridiculous on so many levels. Rational common sense must be applied as Jeff Flake attempted along with others who live in border states.
I’m with Jeff Flake on this issue and even moreso as he continues to battle entrenched bureaucracies in DC to reduce spending. As I stated previously, you people seeking the perfect politician will never, ever be satisfied.
While I agree with your view of ending the jobs and benefits, it won’t help social security.
Social Security is only funded by payroll taxes. A recession will reduce payroll taxes and Congress believes they need the “growth” more people create to keep job growth going.
Don’t ask me how that logic works without also causing huge costs but, they want 100 million more people, including our own birth rate and internal population growth in 20 years.
For the “savings” to apply to social security, you have to change the legislation and reform social security and how it is funded.
However, the savings would apply. They could be used by cities and states to pay for the crumbling water and sewer systems and pot holes and better education and other services government provides in cities and states.
The fed is only thinking about the Fed and its funding. Those tax revenues are greatly depended on to keep the illusion that social security is funding itself with a surplus that is loaning money to the general fund that doesn’t get counted as a loan for spending.
As far as the Fed is concerned, the States and cities can raise taxes, for all they care, to fund the costs of illegal immigration.
Jeff Flake admitted in the same meeting I mentioned above that the States would bear the most cost.
where did my post #17 go?
there it is, awaiting moderation…
I have talked to Jeff Flake and he sincerely believes there is no other solution than that which is being promoted by Congress. He is not alone. Many in Congress believe they have to keep the people here that are working, in those jobs. (Just deport the criminals, I guess but, aren’t they all criminals if they are using stolen and forged documents to work?)
The “rule of law” is too expensive in their way of thinking to start enforcing after 20-30 years of this going on. That was the logic during the Reagan “amnesty,” too. A “one-time fix” would end the problem.
11 times social security has had shortfalls where bonds had to be cashed to meet the monthly benefit checks. 22 times they have had a “fix” by raising taxes that “would take care of the problem.” Reagan raised it 54% in a series of hikes for a “final fix.” Now it is broke again and needs another “final fix.”
Do you believe that immigration or another tax hike or under reporting inflation that keeps the adjustments lower to benefit checks is going to work this time? Many in Congress do.
Bart – again we’re on opposite side of this issue. Illegal criminal aliens are draining this Nation to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars annually. Any Nation willing to surrender her borders is willing to surrender her sovereignty.
Sorry Bart. On this issue, I believe you’re on the wrong side of the “fence” so to speak.
Immigration isn’t about isolation Bart. You can have good trade agreements, immigration that meets employment needs and isn’t for keeping workers to retirees at 3 to 1. You can have all kinds of things if we get the reforms in the tax, compliance and regulation systems that make business uncompetitive.
But, you can’t have a nation of laws if you are going to let 20 million illegal people stay. It doesn’t matter if that causes all kinds of economic problems, you need to show that no matter what the cost is, our nation will follow the law and not change it just to save money.
GA Patriot and Jan Paul, great comments! Flake is an unadulterated Traitor, nothing less! Here’s what American Patrol has in their archives on Flake:
http://tinyurl.com/2xoxsl
bb certainly exposed himself right out of the box, didn’t he?! But of course that’s not the first time. And he either is or was a GOP official here in Georgia. Our party, as well as the Democrats, are chocked full of “bb” types. The whole party system is rigged with folks that are hell bent on destroying the U.S.
Jan Paul,
Have you been following Glenn Spencer of American Patrol? He’s based out of Sierra Vista, right on the Arizona border with Mexico. His website, http://americanpatrol.com/ is excellent and updated daily.
Thanks Hugh
quote:John McCain joined with liberal Sen. Ted Kennedy to sponsor the 2007 amnesty bill. McCain has said that he would push for amnesty once the border fence has been installed. Bill King, the man who ran the 1986 amnesty program said any new amnesty program would legalize half of Mexico.
—————————–
That site has that and the problem is they have already reduced the spending on the fence. I follow other sites and get the alerts from NumbersUSA which I use to fax messages to the politicians in mass with the rest of the members.
Again, I believe the Congress as close as possible, after the 2008 election, possibly before even a new Congress is seated next year, will try to pass an “amnesty.”
The international elite that are pushing both party’s leaders toward an economic union with Mexico and Canada under NAFTA which has already authorized so much, that they will probably try to pass legislation we don’t like and blame it on the outgoing Congress. Then when the new Congress and majority that will be Democrats and RINO’s will begin, that “risk” of voter unrest will be blamed on the previous Congress. Then by 2010 when the next election takes place there won’t be a “hot button border issue” facing them.
It is going to take a lot of work to keep it from happening because it is part of what NAFTA is supposed to accomplish.
I think a “clue” will be what is in the “Federal funding” for state infrastructure projects. If a lot is for the NAFTA highway routes, you can be sure the immigration bills will be forthcoming that grant some type of “route to citizenship,” or “permanent worker permit.”
Jan Paul,
I would most highly encourage you visit http://americanpatrol.com/ daily to receive their daily updates.
I’ve met Roy Beck of NumbersUSA and I also receive their updates, but he really isn’t hard hitting and some suspect he is milking the whole issue rather than going for “the close”. Roy Beck comes from the left side of the aisle and is somewhat squeamish about really facing the issues square on.
You really need to look at American Patrol daily or you are missing much! Glenn Spencer does a daily “feature” and has clippings of all kinds of articles, including some from Europe. And if you look at the “feature” box, in the lower left-hand corner he has a link to his feature archive titled “past features”. Well worth checking out!
I have bookmarked the site, thanks.
Gee, Barts #17 post just showed up.
I agree, Bart, you can’t seek out 20 million illegals and deport them. You are also correct that many will self-deport.
That doesn’t mean you have to pass legislation to legalize them.
You have all people seeking to use entitlement show citizenship and report those who don’t have ID. You check, based on probably cause, on any traffic stop, for documentation. You deny all welfare to anyone without proper documentation. You crack down on Businesses and you patrol the parking lots illegals use for “day jobs.”
You make it so hard that they leave or they are caught breaking other laws such as seeking services only for citizens or traffic laws, etc. and deport them and their families.
The main thing is you don’t pass legislation making any path to citizenship available nor any path to stay.
Again you either are a nation of laws or you aren’t. You can secure the border overnight with national guard and stop the flow until a fence is built. The cost doesn’t matter, right? I mean if we can offer a stimulus package when there isn’t even a recession, we can spend enough to secure the border with the national guard.
Regarding the border, you can even allow the people self-deporting, aid in getting safely home as long as they contact authorities and turn themselves in. We could even allow the entire family to be safely transported to their own country of residence so their family isn’t put at risk trying to get home using unsafe methods.
Mac wrote, “Illegal criminal aliens are draining this Nation to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars annually.”
What about the ‘legal’ parasite aliens with citizenship who drain our economy in far greater amounts than the illegals? There are only two differences:
- Most of the illegal aliens WORK!
- A piece of paper.
Mac, why is there no uproar over the tens of millions here LEGALLY robbing producers of their wealth via government redistribution?
JP,
Nobody was trying to pass legislation to legalize them.
Secure the border (sans the physical fence);
Devise a guest worker program to entice those already here out of hiding (sans the national ID); and incentivize employers to report illegals.
There is a lot of “uproar” on them as well. Frosty Woodbridge has article after article, for example on the devastation adding 100 million more to our population is going to do.
You have seen my comments, one after another about the inability of us to care for our infrastructure and yet, Congress wants to add another 100 million legal immigrants to those already here legally and illegally.
You don’t see as much because the “illegal criminals” that are now 30% and more of some prison populations is an “obvious” symptom of the immigration problem. The people see them gathered at the 7-11 and Home Depot parking lots. They see them on the news.
However, you are 100% correct to point out how our Congress is not only not doing the job with illegal immigration but not doing the job with legal immigration either. Trying to solve our problems by “painting over them,” with legal immigration won’t work.
Bart said,
Devise a guest worker program to entice those already here out of hiding
====================
That legalizes them. They were to be allowed to stay if they “came out of hiding.” Some with a touch back, some with fines, some with learning the language, etc. Some wanted a “path to citizenship.”
Those are all plans to “legalize” their presence. There is no need to legalize them. Just deny them jobs and services and let them go home.
Replace them with the people waiting in line, legally, to come here.
JP,
I misstated my point earlier by adding the word ‘alien’ after legal parasites. I meant those citizens born here who live off of others through many generations.
Instead of going after these freeloaders, it seems we keep giving them more and more through redistribution…where’s the outcry?
Because we have been convinced from FDR on that we have to care for them but, not tax us. Get somebody else to pay for them.
Millions of people don’t understand that U.S. prices are 35% higher than they should be, because we pay for those people’s benefits with higher prices that have taxes and compliance costs hidden in them.
They don’t understand that going to Walmart and buying Tupperware made in China pays Chinese taxes hidden in that price. Yes, some of our taxes are in their too. Shipping, warehousing, and retail companies have their taxes in their too. But, bottom line, we are funding the buying of Chinese submarines just as much as we fund the buying of ours with hidden taxes in prices. We are funding their social spending in prices, just as much as we are funding ours.
Voters wouldn’t be demanding more government spending if they really understood what it is costing them in buying power.

First of all – they are legal and some, not all, have valid reasons for not working.
Second of all – go to any hospital and take a gander at who is being treated for dialysis, cancer and even organ transplants. Yes, ILLEGAL ALIENS. They deliberately come with severely handicapped children and drain our resources in far greater numbers than citizens.
Third of all, citizens on the dole at least do not send billions back to home countries. Over 30 billion last year just to Mexico!! How is that helping our economy?
Fourth, nearly all illegals’ wives (or girlfriends or babies mommas) do not work. They stay home and procreate. How do you think they are able to afford to do that? Most citizens are two working households – juggling child care and work and home responsibilities in a frenzy, all the while supporting this underground cash employees sucking drain.
And look at free lunch and overcrowded schools. And, there is also the pesky problem of English as a Second Language instruction costs.
Again, are you a slave labor employer? I sure hope so, otherwise you are just a second class citizen like me.
And before anyone decides to do “comprehensive immigration reform”, please make sure you do so with your money, not my grandchildren’s futures.
