George Will: Obama will crush McCain

Is George Will right?

HOTAIR-If, that is, he can mobilize turnout among blacks and young voters in the general election (and why wouldn’t/couldn’t he?). Two clips here, the first the bad news and the second the “good” news as Pat Buchanan fantasizes about the rise of a new conservative movement from the ashes of the Democrats’ victory and inevitable mismanagement. Let’s hope this new generation of paleocons remembers to put the blame for World War II on whom it belongs, i.e. Winston Churchill.

Read Will’s op-ed for Newsweek, too, about the two shoes yet to drop. I think he’s overstating the extent to which the Obama/Muslim smear has penetrated (especially post-Wright) and how much it’s influencing people’s votes, but his point about Hillary’s women supporters turning their backs on McCain when they find out he’s pro-life is well taken. Or is it? Geraldine Ferraro reminds our favorite liberal that pro-choice Democrats had no problem handing 49 states to her opponent in 1984. And this Pew poll on abortion from 2006 finds not only no gender gap on the issue, but 51% of self-described moderate/conservative Democrats agreeing that the practice should be illegal in most or all circumstances.

    LATIMES-John McCain’s Ohio disconnect

Republican Party machinery in the state helped get President Bush into office, but it’s not firing yet on McCain’s behalf.

CINCINNATI — As the architect of Ohio’s ballot measure against gay marriage, Phil Burress helped draw thousands of conservative voters to the polls in 2004, most of whom also cast ballots to reelect President Bush. So Burress was not surprised when two high-level staffers from John McCain’s campaign dropped by his office, asking for his help this fall.

What surprised Burress was how badly the meeting went. He says he tried but failed to make the McCain team understand how much work remained to overcome the skepticism of social conservatives. Burress ended up cutting off the campaign officials as they spoke. “He doesn’t want to associate with us,” Burress now says of McCain, “and we don’t want to associate with him.”

Record gas prices could hurt McCain

Politico-More Americans now view energy as a serious concern than at the low point of the 1979 energy crisis, according to a Politico analysis of historical Gallup Polls. And the percentage of voters who consider energy issues “very important” in determining their vote has also risen dramatically since the last election, from 54 percent in October 2004 to 77 percent in a recent poll released by The Pew Research Center for the People & the Press — a percentage point increase nearly double that of any other issue.

Distress over gas prices could hardly come at a worse time for Republicans. Voters usually blame a poor economy on the party that controls the presidency, and there are few more potent reminders of hard economic times than the high cost of fuel at the pump. On Sunday, for the first time ever, AAA found that the national average cost of gasoline rose to $4 a gallon.

    John Kasich for Vice president

He is a proven budget hawk by balancing the budget in Congress
He was instrumental in welfare reform
He would bring Ohio and Pennsylvania to the table
He has been studying taxation, health care, manufacturing and a host of other ills we need fixing.
He is young enough AND experienced
    He is Christian
    He believes in limited governement
He has gain executive experience since leaving Congress

Please google him if your memory hasn’t been triggered by now.

We need limited government for Virginia. What does your State need?

    Lisa

PS: I support Senator McCain and we need his back up man fully capable of getting the job done if McCain would but let him do what he is good at.

Let’s also take into consideration the fact that Israel could strike Iran, and American could get involved, then it wouldn’t matter who or what or where – we’d all vote McCain. And this scenario is much more than a possiblity.
