GOP needs to focus on 2010

After this past election where the GOP got what it deserved for straying so far from its conservative principles, dems now have control of DC and 29 governors to 21 for the GOP.

In two years, 36 gubernatorial seats will be up for grabs, 18 open due to term limits. This is where the GOP needs to focus its efforts.

8 current GOP seats will open up, 10 on the other side. Of these 18, GA, AL, SC, SD and NE should be safe for the GOP while ME, MI, OR and WY are probably going to stay dem. That leaves AZ, KS, NM, OK, PA, TN, CA, HI and RI as true open seats. Both parties will be fighting hard for these 9 open seats.

The other 18 states with gubernatorial elections where incumbents are eligible to seek re-election — AR, CO, IL, IA, MD, MA, NH, NY, OH, WI on the left; AK, CT, FL, ID, MN, NV, TX, VT for the right.

Of these, the GOP should be able to mount a challenge in AR, CO, IA, NY and OH while dems will likely try to steal wins in CT, MN, NV and VT.

There will also be at least 35 U.S. Senate seats on the block — Wikipedia 2010 U.S. Senate Races

The GOP has a great opportunity to regain its majority if it will get back to its core values. The first step is choosing a new RNC Chairman to replace the two-headed joke currently atop the committee. Michael Steele seems to be the popular choice, but is he the best person for the job considering the state of this party right now? Newt Gingrich has also been mentioned, but he has a habit of sticking his toe in the water just to get a little publicity, then back off.

The party has done a great job of moving to the middle which alienated so many of us over the past few years. If it hopes to remain viable, it needs to proudly return to its conservative roots and build a dynamic, forward thinking agenda built upon the basic concepts of real tax reform, real entitlement reform, real decrease in spending and real efforts to decrease the size and scope of this bloated bureaucracy that controls our government.

You really need to study the electoral map. There are 58 states, you’ve only listed 50.

The best strategy would be to wait until a time machine is up and running, and then go back and prevent the past eight years from having such a devastating effect on our world, our nation and your party.

At this point, I’d think I’d worry more about issues than winning those Governorships if I were you.

I guess though you can tailor the issues to the area. Whatever.
