Here’s What I Think…

Erick over at Peach Pundit is asking for our opinions on some signs he made for a possible Macon City Council run. Well, Erick, the signs are pretty good…but don’t you have some explaining to do? I am referring to this little gem that you posted on Redstate a while back:

“The left celebrates every death of every American soldier in Iraq. Let me just repeat it so that it sinks in. The left celebrates every death of every American soldier in Iraq. They are a means to an end.

Wow, so Democrats hate our troops and celebrate every time one is killed, huh? I thought you were a pretty reasonable man, Erick, but writing factually inaccurate crap like that just makes you look like a crazy right-wing lunatic. And the entire post reeks of hypocrisy. If you’re mad about the left “using the murder of American troops for political purposes”, then why aren’t you outraged about the military cover up around the circumstances surrounding Pat Tillman’s death, or the over dramatization of the events surrounding the Jessica Lynch rescue? Both of these instances were obviously distorted for political purposes…but, I guess since they suit your personal political agenda, we can ignore them. Sound about right?

The truth is, for every failure by Democrats and Republicans to work together on Iraq, another soldier dies. No one is celebrating these deaths, but right-wing bloggers like Erick, and left-wing bloggers like Arianna Huffington are enabling these deaths with every divisive post.

But hey, who am I to criticize the great Erick Erickson. I’m just a two-bit part-time blogger who doesn’t have any viewers. Can I still participate in the sign game though? I think I made a good one:

You can view it here.

Hopefully, Erick, your common sense message will resonate with the voters of Macon. The voters of Macon are stupid, right?

    Eric
I realized a while back that the trench warfare is just what the elitists want. Hey just pick your target. any target. Muslims, Jews, Iraqis, Democrats. Guess what. Pawns on a chessboard!

  2. Jace Walden says:

Except, the only pawns on the chessboard for politicians, seems to be our troops.

I support the war. I have from the beginning. But both sides need to come together and come up with a solution that is acceptable to the American people and the troops.

Partisan-hackery and bickering will not do anything but get more and more of our troops killed.

  3. captain_menace says:

You’re naive Jace. There was, and is, no collaboration of left and right that could have made, or will make, Iraq a success. We’ve thrown our best and brightest over there along with hundreds of billions of dollars, and legions of contract employees.

Republicans and Democrats could participate in a 72-hour orgy of lovely good warm feelings, and Iraq would still be a complete disaster. Congressional bi-partisan handjobs aren’t going to change politics in Iraq. Get it?

    This is Bush’s masterpiece.

You support it. You own it. Enjoy it.

  4. JohnKonop says:

    Jace,

WOW That was a great post. I agree with you that we need solutions and less name calling. I have to give Jack Kingston credit on C-Span when Tom Price was ranting about the pork in the Democrats funding bill in Iraq Kingston said it is wrong but we did the same thing in our bills and it has to stop. Pointing fingers is not solving problems!

As far as Iraq I do think Brownback and Biden plan has hope. What do you think?

  5. David O'Rear says:

    Jace Walden,

Since you seem to be one of the only ones who actually supports the war, perhaps you might tell me why we’re fighting.

    Appreciate it.

  6. JohnKonop says:

    David

Do you think nothing will happen if we just pull out? And please explain why Hillary was for the war and led the charge?

At the end of the day the concept of trying to change the Middle East into Countries not ruled by tyrants is noble. And you had experts like Thomas Freidman supporting the idea. And BTW I support the idea!

I just did not support the plan. We should get of foreign oil dependency and use our purchases to effect change. We should stop supporting exploitive trade deals like Oman and CAFTA… that has only been used against us by radicals to claim we are imperialist.

If you understood the issue you would know your pro imperialism view is causing more tension around the world than anything else! That is why NEO LIBS like you and Hillary and not much different than NEO CONS at the end of the day.

Why not read about terrorism and the roots of the problem and not use HILLARY talking points!

Dying to Win: The Strategic Logic of Suicide Terrorism (2005; ISBN 1-4000-6317-5) is Robert A. Pape’s analysis of suicide terrorism from a strategic, social, and psychological point of view. It is based on a database he has compiled at the University of Chicago, where he directs the Chicago Project on Suicide Terrorism. The book’s conclusions are based on data from 315 suicide terrorism campaigns around the world from 1980 through 2003 and 462 individual suicide terrorists. Published in May 2005, Pape’s volume has been widely noticed by press, public, and policymakers alike, and has earned praise from Peter Bergen and Michael Scheuer.
Dying to Win is divided into three parts, analyzing the strategic, social, and psychological dimension of suicide terrorism

    Jace,

I hope you don’t mind. I cross posted this over at PeachPud.

Thanks very much for a well thought out and executed post.

It doesn’t matter if the Word democrat or ‘the Left’ is used.

There are no celebrations of the type being proposed by Erick Erickson, the PeachPud, Red State, etc.

However, to really put the record straight, every death is remembered on Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and the Fourth of July, to name three national holidays.

Perhaps, Errorick Errorickson doesn’t acknowledge these as ‘celebrations.’

    Mad Dog

P.S. We can only hope reasonable voters put Errorick in the correct place come Election Day.

  8. LeftHook says:

“Errorick Errorickson” — that’s funny, and fun to say over and over. It should be part of a drinking game.

  9. JohnKonop says:

I wonder where Eric’s outrage for his FRIEND CONGRESSMAN TOM PRICE who made it clear is was not his job to have any oversight over the White House via Iraq.

While kids came home to rats at WALTER REED, VETS forced out of much needed healthcare, 9 billion dollars of tax payer money lost, war profiteering by Halliburton (Tax payer money borrowed from China) while they do business with IRAN and OIL COMPANIES giving money to politicians like Price to guarantee their profits!

TOM PRICE if your kid was in IRAQ you might of “micro-manage” the details better!

  10. David O'Rear says:

    Mr Konop,

Do you think keeping American troops in Iraq will stop the civil war? If the answer is yes, what is the reason for failure thus far? If no, how do you ask a man to be the last one to die for a failed cause?

    .

Do you think Senator Clinton is solely responsible for the invasion, destruction and occupation of Iraq? If not, do you think she carries the majority of the responsibility alone? If not, why do you keep harping on one senator’s vote, and ignore the administration’s war crimes?

    .

By what authority do you think it is America’s right to try to change “the Middle East into Countries not ruled by tyrants”?

    = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I note with curiosity your citation of Robert A. Pape’s work. Do you support the concept of Offensive Realism, put forth by his mentor, John Mearsheimer? To remind you,

“Given the difficulty of determining how much power is enough for today and tomorrow, great powers recognize that the best way to ensure their security is to achieve hegemony now, thus eliminating any possibility of a challenge by another great power. Only a misguided state would pass up an opportunity to become hegemon in the system because it thought it already had sufficient power to survive.”

How does such a view fit with your perspective on imperialism?

  11. JohnKonop says:

    David,

Unlike you I did not support going in. But for guys like you to cut and run with no plan after you created the mess demonstrates the re-active ill thought out behavior that got us in their.

That is why the bipartisan local control plan makes the most sense that I have seen to avoid a regional civil war. And then bring in regional players based on culture to help with peace.

BTW you are the one for imperialism based on your support of HILLARY! As I said I was not for being the peace keeper for the world like you!

I am not for exploiting people for profits like you!

  12. David O'Rear says:

There was a song, back in the 1960s or early 1970s, by Kris Kristopherson called “Blame it on the Stones.” The whole idea was that whatever was wrong in your life — wife nagging, boss angry, kids disrespecful — all you had to do was “blame it on the Stones, blame it on the Stones. You’ll feel so much better, blame it on the Stones.”

    Great song.

    .

Blame it on Hillary, blame it on Hillary, you’ll feel so much better, blame it on Hillary.

    Nah, doesn’t quite work.

  13. Bill says:

    David re:
“Do you think Senator Clinton is solely responsible for the invasion, destruction and occupation of Iraq?”

No David, nobody thinks that. But the woman is running for President. See the difference?

  14. JohnKonop says:

    Bill

David only can see what he wants to see!
