Huckabee, Dems. to meet retired officers on torture

Should Bush meet with retired officers on torture?

THILL-Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee so far is the only Republican presidential candidate scheduled to meet in Iowa with a group of retired generals and admirals to discuss military detention and interrogation policies.

Human Rights First, a non-partisan human rights advocacy group organized the meetings. It invited all of the presidential candidates to participate in the meetings.

Huckabee, who polls indicate is surging in Iowa, is scheduled to meet with the retired officers on Monday.

Democratic presidential candidates Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.), Barrack Obama (Ill.), Chris Dodd (Conn.), former Sen. John Edwards (N.C.) and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson will also meet the retired officers in private one-hour meetings between December 1 and December

  1. Blah Blah Blah – - – Huckabee will be enlightened and come out against torture if these generals can say the right things?

It shouldn’t be difficult at all to look at Guantanamo and understand how it represents the post-slavery low for our country.

“Retired officers” is another way of saying “people who were able to retire at a young age and don’t have to worry about their golden years.” These people’s, these retired officers’, vote doesn’t count any more than mine. They have no military authority, they have no idea what methods are being used to interrogate detainees. What a croc of a ploy. Why don’t they sit down with the current commanders who are on the ground?

Couldn’t he just use the phone or something?

  5. Aubrey, you’re right. 20+ years in the military ain’t sh*t.

Every retired officer in America could come out against torture and they’d still be wrong.

Jack Bauer is the only source I trust on this issue.

I’m sensing sarcasm (for all of you in Rio Linda) and I’m with you all the way on this one. Torture leads to “escalation”. In addition they pissed me off. Bad mistake.

  7. Aubrey says:

    Al,

Give me a break. These retired officers are being used as a point of expertise when they are no longer involved in the field they are supposed to be experts in.

I’m sorry, but today’s military and the current style of war fare are entirely new animals for the U.S. Retired personel, whether they be officer or enlisted, have no frame of reference (kind of like other remf’s I could think of). (Bill, do you know what a remf is?)

No one is condoning torture. I am, however, calling into question the authority and expertise of these people.

I don’t know that one. But I know what a nymphomaniac is. And as I understand it they’ve been combining the two in some of these “facilities”. You do understand that America, Republicans, and Christians are coming under scrutiny for this right?
