Control Congress is a multi-partisan, issue-oriented political forum that brings together the Left, Right, and everyone in between.

Jack Murtha’s Friends

This is why the system is broken. We have lawmakers on both sides taking money from special interests to form policy. What should be done to solve this problem?

TH-WASHINGTON — Democrats controlling the House of Representatives demonstrated this month the hollowness of their claim that they have ended the corruption of 12 Republican years. Rep. John Murtha quietly slipped into the Intelligence authorization bill two earmarks costing taxpayers $5.5 million. The beneficiary was a contractor headquartered in Murtha’s hometown of Johnstown, Pa., whose executives have been generous political contributors to the powerful 17-term congressman.

This scandalous conduct would be unknown except for reforms by the new Democratic majority. But the remodeled system is not sufficiently transparent to expose in a timely manner machinations of Murtha and fellow earmarkers to his colleagues, much less to the public. It took Republican Rep. Jeff Flake of Arizona, the leading House earmark-buster, to discover the truth.

Murtha’s earmark requests attest (as required by the new reforms) that “neither I nor my spouse had any financial interest” in either project. What he did not attest was that officers and employees of Concurrent Technologies contributed $56,475 to Murtha from the 2000 election cycle to the present. That includes $4,500 from CEO and President Daniel DeVos and $5,000 from Vice President Emil Sarady.

John, this was not quiet, only very brief new, which I ques is quiet.

The system has been broken for many years.

Congress does not represent the peolple. Wish I could vote my own pay raise and have my own pension fund.

Murtha is corrupt. Why only corrupt republics are pursued?

The GOP was in control since 94 so more money went that way. Now Dems are in control and and the money is moving toward them. It is all about the money!

We need a higher turnover rate with these folks. Term limits and self critique are possible solutions. As you know I’m a Republican, although some might be surprised by this.

    Bill

    Your an American First!

  5. If John Konop or pressow are seriously naive to the point where it is ACTUALLY POSSIBLE for Murtha to be prosecuted for crimes and THIS DOJ NOT DOING SO…if that is your song and dance, then you are both delusional. You want to talk about a “slam dunk”! If they had something on Murtha, he’d be in front of a grand jury in two seconds.

To pretend that this isn’t true is just more of the same…channeling John Boehner and crying like a baby…whaaaa, Murtha is more corrupt than anyone and he gets away with it, whaaaa…

Give me a break! They put Georgia Thompson in jail over nothing, ruined her life. Not to mention these two facts:

Number of local Republican officials who have been investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice since 2001: 37

Number of local Democratic officials who have been: 262

Republicans are more interested in tabloid gossip than reality, and this post is proof of that! You hate Murtha because he called out the war for what it was over a year ago. It just aggravates you so much that he was in your face and RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING HE SAID! Can’t have that…no, we have to assassinate his character. Kill the messenger.

Way to go boys! Oh, and John…this is something Tom Price would resort to in a time like this!

The problem is many on both sides now think everything is ok unless it is against the law.

  7. With so much ACTUAL CRIME being discovered week to week in DC, why are you so hung up on a concept like that?

Wait…you’re a Republican. Being a team player now, huh?
