Kristol: Bush Might Bomb Iran If He ‘Thinks Obama’s Going To Win’
Do you think Bush will Bomb Iran if Obama’s going to win?
TP-On Fox News Sunday this morning, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol said that President Bush is more likely to attack Iran if he believes Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) is going to be elected.
However, “if the president thought John McCain was going to be the next president, he would think it more appropriate to let the next president make that decision than do it on his way out,” Kristol said, reinforcing the fact that McCain is offering a third Bush term on Iran.
“I do wonder with Senator Obama, if President Bush thinks Senator Obama’s going to win, does he somehow think — does he worry that Obama won’t follow through on that policy,” Kristol added. Host Chris Wallace then asked if Kristol was suggesting that Bush might “launch a military strike” before or after the election:
WALLACE: So, you’re suggesting that he might in fact, if Obama’s going to win the election, either before or after the election, launch a military strike?
KRISTOL: I don’t know. I mean, I think he would worry about it. On the other hand, you can’t — it’s hard to make foreign policy based on guesses of election results. I think Israel is worried though. I mean, what is, what signal goes to Ahmadinejad if Obama wins on a platform of unconditional negotiations and with an obvious reluctance to even talk about using military force.
Kristol also suggested that Obama’s election would tempt Saudi Arabia and Egypt to think, “maybe we can use nuclear weapons.”

John,
Are you in favor of making a deal with Iran and NOT having a relationship like the one the Bush Admin. has now? That is, not putting-up with any nuclear weapons program proliferation?

You cowboys need a real rest!

John,
Beautiful comment!

That’s an awful reason to nuke a country. Can they get any lower?

I trust the armed forces not to carry out any such atrocity.
I just wish I could trust the Congress to make it unnecessary for the generals to disobey and illegal order by impeaching Dubious.

Seems Bush is going to be in line behind Israel when it comes to bombing Iran.

Should Bush negotiate with enemies like Israel?
June 23rd, 2008 at 8:22 am
John - Enemies like Israel? Get a grip John. The kool-aid you’re drinking is affecting what little thought-processes that puny brain had left.
Perhaps you and Hugh might start posting these comment starting with “da chews.”

Sgt Mac
No Sgt Mac, I was making the point that Israel negotiates with enemies not that they are our enemy!
June 23rd, 2008 at 11:53 am
John,
Do you support direct, no pre-condition negotiations with terrorists like Ahmadenigjad?
I think Bush (or any other president) should evaluate every individual situation then make a decision on how to proceed. In the case of Iran, there should be no negotiations as long as Iran is killing Americans in Iraq and pursuing nuclear weapons technology.
Personally, I hope Israel bombs the shit out of Iran because America has too many pansy asses unwilling to act until acted upon…in other words, you and your ilk will sacrifice many innocent American lives before deciding to take military action…the failed policies of Carter, Bush41 and Clinton.

That logic will take us all the way to the Steppes of Russia. But hey, at least you’re behind our troops. (every steppe of the way)
June 23rd, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Bill,
Worrying about the yellow hordes is soooo 12th century!

Bart
Negotiating does not mean you have a deal.
June 23rd, 2008 at 10:22 pm
John,
So you support Obama’s position of negotiating with known terrorists?
And you see no problem with debasing the office of U.S. President by sitting in the same room with somebody who daily orders his men to kill Americans?
June 23rd, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Bart
Do you think Reagan was wrong to negotiate with the USSR?
June 23rd, 2008 at 10:58 pm
You’re a real whiz kid there bb.
Negotiation is a tool. Nothing more and nothing less. If you’re good at it, you should consider using it frequently. If you’re not good at it, use some other tool.
I can imagine you hiring a contractor to build your house and insisting that he not use his hammer. The hammer shows up in the old Soviet flag, and you wouldn’t want to send the wrong message to our troops.
What a bonehead.

John,
Never mind…I mistakenly thought we were going to have a discussion. But as always, you refuse to answer questions…just duck and weave using inane, non-related comparisons.
Do you ever grow tired of being wrong?
June 24th, 2008 at 9:42 am
Bart
How is this wrong?
Do you think Reagan was wrong to negotiate with the USSR?
June 24th, 2008 at 9:50 am
John,
We have been through this so many times, it is a false comparison on every level.
Do you support Obama’s position of negotiating with known terrorists?
Do you see no problem with debasing the office of U.S. President by sitting in the same room with somebody who daily orders his men to kill Americans?
June 24th, 2008 at 10:27 am
Was Bush wrong to negotiate with Colonel Khadafy?
June 24th, 2008 at 11:10 am
Ha! After my boys fron RAF Lakenheath took care of this moron in 1986, he was willing to do anything to avoid another confrontation.
You may remember we launched FB-111’s against Libya back then. The French refused to let us fly over French territory. We “accidentally” hit their embassy during the mission.
In case you’re missing the point John, Khaddafi BEGGED Bush, I wouldn’t call it anything close to negotiating.
By the way, when do you plan to answer Bart’s question? Do you plan to use the ridiculous Regan comparison while avoiding the question?
Here’s a nice mnemonic we developed for Libya back iin 1986……
L Lakenheath
I Is
B Bombing
Y Your
A Ass
June 24th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
SgtMac,
Beat you to it, sort of. Around 82-83 we were ‘playing games’ off the coast of Libya in the Gulf of Sidra with our F14s. Didn’t drop bombs, but got to mess with their migs on a daily basis.
June 24th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
John,
A simple yes or no will suffice.
Making bogus comparisons to successful GOP presidents trying to excuse your support for Obama is not helpful.
June 24th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
It was negotiating with arabs that got our sorry butts out of a US Tripoli military invasion the first time back in Jefferson’s presidency. You gotta do all - show a force of military, negotiate, and trade. Economics is a great problem-solver and uniter. Else, we wouldn’t deal today with rogue nations like China, S Korea, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Ah, yes. Libya.
Another GOPer provoked military action.
June 25th, 2008 at 9:35 am
Nice one Davey - keep sucking up to those “democratic” leaders in China and Hong Kong.
People like you were called collaborators during WWII.
June 25th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
McSgt,
Shove it.
June 25th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
“People like you were called collaborators during WWII.”
Yeah SgtMac, but people like you were called idiots during WWII.
Now that I think about, people like you are still called idiots. Hmmm…
June 25th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Mac,
Don’t you just love the high level of discourse on this site full of “progressives”?
June 25th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
If you want high-level discourse, go listen to the Rush Limbaugh show (he’s always high). I like my politics where it belongs…
In the gutter.
