Lawmaker: No ‘Aliens’ in Florida

Do you think passing laws to call illegal aliens undocumented workers and giving them in-state tuition for college sends mixed messages about our immigration policy? Is it fair to charge Americans out-of-state tuition while illegal aliens get close to a 75% tax payer discount?

FOX-A Florida lawmaker wants the state to stop using the term “illegal aliens,” saying the second word should be changed to something less … foreign.

“I personally find the word ‘alien’ offensive when applied to individuals, especially to children,” Sen. Frederica Wilson told The News-Press. “An alien to me is someone from out of space.”
“We don’t say ‘alien,’ we say ‘immigrant,” She said.

Wilson, who represents thousands of Caribbean immigrants, has introduced a bill that would ban the term “illegal alien” from any official documents developed by the state though no penalty would be applied if the language slipped in.

The Miami Democrat told the paper she was particularly irked by the use of the term when she was hearing testimony on a previous bill she sponsored allowing foreign-born children to get in-state tuition at colleges and universities.

She said she’s not as concerned about the use of the word “illegal” in the expression, but “I like ‘undocumented’ better.”

Frankly I just love using words that irk people. And those who always seem to want to dictate to others what words to use will always be second class citizens to people who can’t be harmed with words. Of course “class” has different meanings for different people.

    Hey Bill,

Did you see the movie “Man on Fire”? Well, its fantastic and probably Denzel Washington’s best ever.

What I”m wondering is if the “alleged” illegal alien that just kidnapped the boy (who got away) in Florida is the start of a new business in the U.S. Unless I”m misstaken, this FLorida case isn’t the only kidnapping by an illegal alien recently. In the movie, there is a rather large business of kidnapping children and holding them for millions of dollars in ransom. This appears to be a fairly normal occurrance in the movie, no one is terribly shocked.

So, do the invading illegal aliens seek to bring their kidanpping industry to the U.S.?

No I didn’t see it. But he sounds like one of those “xenophobes” to me.

  4. LeftHook Says:

Doesn’t the word “alien” appear in the Constitution? I guess we’ll need a Constitutional amendment to do the job right.

Sadly, I didn’t make this up:

Calling an “illegal alien” and “undocumented worker” is like calling a “drug dealer” an “undocumented pharmacist”.

It’s all the politics of Luntz. It started with Newt and the approved word list and now Democrats are doing it. Bah!

Aubrey, #2, I have read this is a very lucrative business in Afghanistan and Iraq also. Pity that we might end up importing such practices in this country before long.

    America’s future’s looking great, eh?

  9. Aubrey Says:

How long until America’s rich begin to take out “kidnap insurance”from State Farm. Are you in good hands?
