Military.com Poll: War Support Waning
Do you think this is why Ron Paul is leading all sides on donations from the military?
Military.Com-Nearly 60 percent of readers who participated in a recent Military.com poll said the United States should withdraw its troops from Iraq now or by the end of 2008. More than 40 percent of the respondents agreed the pullout should begin immediately because “we’re wasting lives and resources there.”
A similar number of participants, however, felt that U.S. troops should remain in Iraq, with 41 percent of respondents concluding that America should fight “until the insurgency is totally defeated.”
The online poll, conducted over three days starting July 10, was open to all Military.com readers. (Military.com membership was not a requirement to participate.)

War On Terror: Not listening to Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi, Iraqi Sunni and Shiite tribal leaders have formalized an alliance with U.S. forces and against al-Qaida. The Arab street is rising up, and they’re on our side.

The cut-and-run Democrats have long argued that our presence in Iraq has merely stirred things up and given al-Qaida an effective recruiting tool. Well, we’ve certainly stirred things up — and thanks to the success of our surgin’ general, David Petraeus, we have a bevy of new Iraqi recruits. Except they’ve got al-Qaida in their cross hairs.
On Saturday, members of the 1st Cavalry Division based near Taji brokered a formal agreement between Sunni and Shiite tribal leaders to join forces against al-Qaida and other jihadists. The Sunni and Shiite agreed to use members of more than 25 local tribes to protect the area around Taji, just 12 miles north of Baghdad.
The deal is just the latest example of the progress Democrats claim isn’t happening in Iraq

Could it be? Is this just in “some outlying places” or is the change taking place in a significant number of places to start a trend towards defeat of al-Qaeda?
Naturally, both those who want us to stay and those who want us to leave, will “cherry pick” information but, certainly some in Iraq want to defeat the “outsiders” who are behind much of the terrorism. Are there enough of them? Are their numbers growing? Is it because of a “surge” or the result of people tired of the terrorism and no longer believing they can depend on “foreign troops” to end the violence?
What happens to the Democrat’s chances in 08 if Iraq becomes a peaceful nation supplying the world with oil sold in dollars and the dollar begins to rise in popularity again?
John,
It is bad enough that you so often refer to polls as the basis to substantiate your misguided principles, but to now start referencing bogus, unscientific data as if it means something is beyond ridiculous.
As Mac correctly pointed out in a previous post, the military is not a democracy. One does not get to choose where he or she serves…that is part of the deal when one volunteers.
BTW, you and Dennis Kucinich should really meet, the two of you would get along great bashing America, the military and what is left of our free enterprise system.
Bart
Why do you hate the troops?
Do you only support the troops if they have your NEOCON views?
Shorter neocon:if you were stupid enough to join the military then you deserve to get blown up by an IED in Iraq. Pathetic.
John,
You are so predictable…ctrl c, ctrl v.
caroline,
keep typing.
Bart
Do you think William F Buckley has “misguided principles”?
Why do you ask? Does he join with you in bashing America and wanting our military to fail? If so, yes, he has misguided principles.
Another meaningless self selected, unscientific poll.
bb,
What part of the invasion, destruction and occupation of Iraq was
(a– legal;
(b– constitutional;
(c– sensible;
(d– an appropriate response to 9-11;
(e– at all related to 9-11;
(f– in America’s national security interest?
When you can answer that, you may — MAY — be qualified to talk about how and why the Dubious (mal)Administration is abusing our troops.
Until then, you haven’t a shred of credibility.
all of the above…question answered, credibility never in doubt.
What the heck does Military.com know about anything anyway?
Shut up, pick up your gun, and shoot in that direction!
Traitors.
Bart
WOW You now think the father of the conservative movement Willaim F Buckley has “misguided principles”?
You Neocon-men have no shame!
John,
I thought you considered Viguerie to be ‘father of the conservative movement’. Make up your mind John.
Bart
Both men are against the Iraq war plan, out of control spending and federal education.
You are making my point!
John – polls don’t mean anything. I talked with two of my neighbors last week, and both of them said it was nice not having rain for a change. I’m pretty sure that both of them support the war.
OK, bb, you’re now officially a whack job.
That’s taken as a compliment coming from a far left winger like you David. Must mean I got it right!
