Obama, McCain agree on many once-divisive issues
What is the difference?
LATIMES-Their similar stances on immigration, nuclear weapons, global warming and stem-cell research are evidence of a centrist shift in the political landscape.
For Amy Rick, the 2008 presidential election is a win-win situation. Both Barack Obama and John McCain support an expansion of stem-cell research that she has battled for in vain under President Bush.
“Both are very solid,” said Rick, president of the Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research. “We are definitely looking forward with optimism to a change in policy in 2009.”
John Isaacs, an arms control advocate, feels the same way, because both candidates have made nuclear nonproliferation a priority. “We’ll have major progress on nuclear issues no matter who is elected,” said Isaacs, executive director of the Council for a Livable World.

As a fiscal conservative who ain’t “gettin paid” myself and millions of other Americans are always looking for the cheapest most cost effective ways to solve problems, which of course puts us at odds with the medical establishment and many politicians. For example the whole “stem cell” debate got plenty of free coverage in the MSM especially with Michael J. Fox and Parkinson’s disease. However there’s a much cheaper way to combat this disease and many others.

Of course these JACKASSES within the Republican party can continue to toe the line. But REAL conservatives and REAL Christians are opposed to corporate welfare and stem cell research
What’s the difference between Obama and McCain? Are you joking?
1) McCain surrounds himself and relies on neocon advisors. I thought you were opposed to necon nation building.
Are we done here?
2) McCain wants to continue Bush’s economic policies, particularly budget-busting tax cuts for the rich (while chiding the middle class for whining about flat wages and economic insecurity).
Enough?
3) McCain surrounds himself and his campaign with lobbyists, Obama rejects donations from lobbyists. Do you think industry lobbyists are good for policy development?
Surely that’s enough.
4) McCain wants a permanent and substantial military presence in Iraq. Obama is focused on rooting out terrorists, not occupying Muslim countries.
5) Healthcare, privaizing Social security, approach to diplomacy…the list goes on and on.
Let me help you out Lefty:
“1) McCain surrounds himself and relies on neocon advisors.” Whereas Obama surrounds himself with racist, bigoted religous leaders for twenty years, admitted terrorists of the country he is campaigning to lead, a hate-filled wife who has a strong dislike for her country, scan artists, etc.
“2) McCain wants to continue Bush’s economic policies, particularly budget-busting tax cuts for the rich (while chiding the middle class for whining about flat wages and economic insecurity).” Whereas Obama wants to increase taxes and increase the welfare state (while forcing high school and college kids to perform community service every week in return for their “quality” government education).
“3) McCain surrounds himself and his campaign with lobbyists, Obama rejects donations from lobbyists.” Whereas Obama reneged on his campaign contribution pledge.
“4) McCain wants a permanent and substantial military presence in Iraq.” Whereas Obama just wants to quit. Well, he may refine his position on this subject more tomorrow.
“5) Healthcare, privaizing Social security, approach to diplomacy…the list goes on and on.” Yes, it does.
Aubrey: Thanks. You and I agree that there are significant differences between Obama and McCain.
Does the author of this post agree? We’ll see.
BTW, Aubrey, are your comments meant to suggest that what I said isn’t true, or just that you think you’ve identified some counterbalances.
I mean, for example, does Obama’s reneging on public financing mean it’s ok/good that McCain surrounds himself with industry lobbyists?
You would think that if there were 2 people on the planet who could abide by McCain-Feingold it would be McCain and Feingold. But apparently it’s too much to ask because he violated the law and the FEC chairman was promptly replaced.

Lefty and Aubrey
You guys are only fooling yourself! Barr 08!
John,
You really don’t see much difference between McCain and Obama?
Aubrey
I do not, only the spin they tell supporters!
