Ron Paul Excluded in Iowa

If you care about free speech please let your voice be heard and demand they let Ron Paul in the GOP debate!

Posted by Lew Rockwell at June 19, 2007 02:24 PM

On Saturday, June 30th, in Des Moines, Iowans for Tax Relief and the Iowa Christian Alliance will hold a presidential candidates forum. Present will be Messrs. Romney, Brownback, Gilmore, Huckabee, Thompson, and Tancredo. Ron Paul will not be there because he has been barred.

The heads of the two organizations refuse to say why. If you can find out, let me know.

    Ron Paul Press Release:

    Ron Paul Excluded in Iowa
Iowans for Tax Relief and Iowa Christian Alliance will host a presidential candidates forum on Saturday, June 30th in Des Moines. Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney, Sam Brownback, Jim Gilmore, Mike Huckabee, Tommy Thompson, and Tom Tancredo will participate.

Ron Paul, however, will not participate. Why? Because he wasn’t invited.

We heard about this forum from numerous supporters in Iowa who asked why Dr. Paul was not going to participate. Those supporters assumed that Dr. Paul was invited.

The campaign office had not received an invitation so we called this morning; thinking we might have misplaced the invitation or simply overlooked it. Lew Moore, our campaign manager, called Mr. Edward Failor, an officer of Iowans for Tax Relief, to ask about it. To our shock, Mr. Failor told us Dr. Paul was not invited; he was not going to be invited; and he would not be allowed to participate. And when asked why, Mr. Failor refused to explain. The call ended.

Lew then called Mr. Steve Sheffler, president of the Iowa Christian Alliance, to talk with him. Mr. Sheffler did not answer so Lew left a message. He has yet to respond.

Why are the Iowans for Tax Relief and the Iowa Christian Alliance excluding the one Republican candidate who scored at the top of every online poll taken after the MSNBC, Fox News, and CNN debates? Why are they denying Iowans the opportunity to hear from the Republican presidential candidate whose popularity is growing by the day?

We couldn’t get answers to these questions from Messrs. Failor and Sheffler. Maybe you’ll have better luck. Their contact information is below.

It’s ironic that on the same day we learned the Iowans for Tax Relief and the Iowa Christian Alliance excluded Dr. Paul from their candidates forum, we received a call from ABC News confirming Dr. Paul’s participation in its nationally broadcast August 5th debate to be held in Des Moines.

This is the Republican machine standing with it’s eyes closed and it’s fingers in its ears screaming “NA NA NA NA NA!!”

  3. bb says:

Maybe Paul can get in the dem debate tonight.

  4. JohnKonop says:

    Bart

How can you call Paul a liberal? How much is Hillary paying you!

  5. Mike says:

Emailed both of them. Even though I dont agree with his Middle East policy he has a lot of good ideas that need to be heard and shared. Maybe he can get America thinking about down sizing our government and useless foreign aide policies.

  6. Heather says:

Also…don’t forget to sign the petition if you’d like to see Ron Paul in Des Moines on June 30th.

  7. Bill says:

I suspected that these were phoney baloney organizations designed to give the other guys additional air time over Paul. And I just went to the website. Turns out the Presidential debate forum IS the home page, there’s not much in the way of archives, and both groups are sponsoring this website. And can’t find taxrelieve.org. THIS LOOKS BOGUS!!!!

  8. bb says:

Didn’t say he was a liberal, just thought he might want to join with defeatocrats in discounting Iran’s threat to the world.

I agree with Mike, too bad Paul is not the complete package. If not for his foreign policy beliefs, his agenda would be much more popular.

  9. bb says:

    Bill,

Are you the dumbest guy on the internet? Everybody knows John can’t type — try http://www.taxrelief.org.

The Truth Why Ron Paul Is Excluded From Iowa Forum
All credit goes to Dailypaul.com on this one.

It appears that Ed Failor Jr. is senior adviser on the McCain Campaign in Iowa! Talk about a conflict of interest, huh? This is another site that says he is with the McCain Campaign just in case they try to say it’s not true. And why not another which is a press release from McCain’s Campaign itself!

How much more ridiculous will this get? Do they really think they can get away with something this blatantly obvious?

After about a half hour of Google searching, it appears that Failor has had a blind eye towards Ron Paul all along. In every single article, they say how “all” the presidential candidates each have their own challenges to overcome with Iowa’s religious conservative views. Now rather than say Ron Paul matches their views, they completely leave out his name in every single article I have read.

Another aspect that Dailypaul.com has on their site is that Ed Failor is tied to an organization called American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) with a lot of big corporate money at stake. Here are some of the companies involved.
“ALEC has the financial support of more than 200 corporations including Coors, Amway, IBM, Ford, Philip Morris, Exxon, Texaco and Shell Oil. William Bennett, Jack Kemp, John Sununu, and George Bush have all addressed ALEC sessions in recent years.”

Now as if it can’t get any worse. Here are more companies that support their missions.

“Companies and industry organizations supporting ALEC’s mission include Enron, Amoco, Chevron, Texaco, R.J. Reynolds, AT&T, the American Nuclear Energy Council, the Chlorine Chemistry Council, the American Petroleum Institute, and the Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America.”

You can read the whole scoop here. Just seeing the list of companies this gentleman is dealing with, scared the heck out of me! Obviously these businesses do not like Ron Paul’s message of truly free market activity and getting rid of corporate welfare.

  15. This story from the Des Moines Register says Ron Paul is included in the debate. Did they change their minds or is the Register simply wrong?

  16. My bad – I see now that it is the forum that Paul was not invited to, which is different than the later debate.

  17. bob says:

I am a life long Republican who supports Fred Thompson. I cannot understand how this can happen!

I sent my e-mails RIGHT IS RIGHT!

  18. William says:

If Ron Paul is left out I will never give money again to the PARTY! I am not the only one.

I hope you hear this BART!

  19. Here are my extended thoughts on the subject:
“Ron Paul Banned From Iowa Forum”

  20. JohnKonop says:

    Eric

    Good read I agree!

  21. TOM T says:

The leadership of the GOP is on a death march! We need help and fast!

  22. Dawn says:

Thank you Eric for your article a must read for everyone.

I will not vote for any REPUBLICAN if they do not let Ron Paul in.

    This is wrong wrong wrong………

  23. bb says:

waaaahhhhh (whining sound). “I will not vote for any Republican if ….blah, blah, blah.”

Who cares about a BS forum where the frontrunners are not even scheduled to be there? Paul should be thankful that he is not lumped in with the rest of the alsoran losers. He comes out better not being there because media will portray it as a minor league like forum if they cover it at all.

If you want serious dialogue about critical issues, it is time to narrow the field anyway. 11 white guys on a stage raising their hands in response to inane questions from a liberal media putz does not provide the very small TV audience with an understanding of where they stand.

Get over it people. This is making a mountain out of a molehill.

  24. STUNNING!

    just STUNNING!

The GOP VC of CHEROKEE COUNTY trashes and trounces the most conservative of the Presidential Candidates…

oh- BLACK BART- YOU must be a troll…

heck– you don’t even know what a dialogue is…your idea of a “discussion” excludes those who supposedly “serve” the people they elected to actually LISTEN to the people who elected them…you know– the whole public SERVANT thing escapes you….

SNL couldn’t do a better parody of Black Bart hits the GOP than you do!

    LOL!

    I LOVE IT!

I think you need a new shovel for the 4th of July Holiday…

you MUST be wearing yours out…
