Same-sex couples win NJ court battle
The debate over gay marriage is far from over after the New Jersey State Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples are entitled to the same rights and benefits as heterosexual couples.
But the high court stopped short of legalizing same-sex marriage, and dumped the issue into the hands of New Jersey lawmakers. And that’s where the victory is not so clear and the fight begins.
Do you agree that same sex couples are entitled to the same benefits as heterosexual couples? Does this open the door to gay marriage? Will this help or hurt the GOP?

Well I guess tax benefits are one thing but adoption has never been a “right” for anyone. And if they ever start a “Gay divorce court” the lawyers are going to get everything. I might start watching T.V. again if they start a show. Are there problems coming from Massachusetts with this?
Bill,
I have to agree with Scalia this is a state rights issue that should be decided by local lawmakers.
WASHINGTON — Deeply controversial issues like abortion and suicide rights have nothing to do with the Constitution, and unelected judges too often choose to find new rights at the expense of the democratic process, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said Saturday.
Scalia, a leading conservative voice after 20 years on the court, said people naturally get upset with the growing number of cases in which a federal court intrudes on social issues better handled by the political process.
“Take the abortion issue,” he said. “Whichever side wins, in the courts, the other side feels cheated. I mean, you know, there’s something to be said for both sides.”
“The court could have said, ‘No, thank you.’ The court have said, you know, ‘There is nothing in the Constitution on the abortion issue for either side,’” Scalia said. “It could have said the same thing about suicide, it could have said the same thing about … you know, all the social issues the courts are now taking.”
Will this help or hurt the GOP?
This will clearly help voter turnout.
John
I do like the “Decentralization” theme.
Gov. James E. McGreevey
New Jersey governor cheated on his second wife with another man while he was in office. If this is the kind of personal liberties New Jersey wants to parade in front of the nation… I weep for the future of children in New Jersey.
Fortunatly South Dakota is the battle ground for stopping abortion and passing a marriage protection amendement.

Washington Post article on todays action.
Republican Assemblyman Guy Gregg said public opinion in New Jersey was opposed to any change to the traditional definition of marriage, and said he will introduce a bill next week calling for an amendment to the state constitution that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.
He said there would be at least one other bill seeking such an amendment.
How long do you think it would take to mobilize voters in New Jersey? 6 months? Sounds about right.
Steven Goldstein, head of advocate group Garden State Equality, told supporters at a rally late on Wednesday in Montclair that he would fight for full marriage for gays until there is “blood on these knuckles.”
This only points up the will to commit violence in the name of hedonism. I have only one thing to say in response. “Over my dead body.”
James,
George W. Bush thinks the NJ decision is a good one. Better put him on your list too.
Jersey Court’s Pro-Homosexual Ruling Could Fuel Marriage Defense Efforts
“Blood on these knuckles”? there’s something else going on here.
Why can’t they just find a different word? “rizzashizmo” for example.
Legitimization is the same by any name. Government recognition of homosexual acts produces government sanctioned blasphemy. Homosexual behavior should not be encouraged in any form or taught that it is acceptable.
I guess I wouldn’t feel threatened unless they pushed for human cloning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBVTx0CO1Fs&search=mad%20tv%20clip

Do you think this will effect the mid terms?
