Private Menace - did I ever tell you that you're a fool? Your silly assertion that oil production "peaked" in the 1970s, and that all the easy oil has been harvested, is only true because the technology to exploit CURRENT field wasn't available in the good old hippy dippy days of the 60s and 70s.

You post as if you actually know something when your research on the subject is clearly lacking.

You still have the 1970s mindset in the year 2008. By the LEAST optimistic views, there's enough oil in ANWR and off our own coastlines to supply the entire Country for more than 30 years - and that doesn't even count what might be available in places like Montana and the Dakotas. Up until recently, these areas were considered too difficult to exploit, but with current prices, it now appears to make sense to look into it as it is financially smart to do so.

Unfortunatley, the tree-huggers, caribou crowd, and spotted owl enthusiasts seem to think these things are more important than people.

I suggest you drill a bit deeper (pardon the pun)before making ridiculous assertions for which you present zero facts.

bb, did I ever tell you that you're a boob?

America has already harvested the good easy oil.

Where are these substantial, known, American reserves you are referring to?

John,

"we only have 4% of the supply here" -- how do you know John...we are not allowed to explore because of the BS environmental crap.

Again, if America had done what Americans do when not prevented by government over regulation, America would have plenty of oil thus making the dollar value on world markets significantly less important when it comes to oil.

Blame Bush all you want, but it goes much further than that John.

Bart

You are flat out wrong!

One we only have 4% of the supply here. Also do the math if the dollar is worth have as much pre Bush 2.

This is why debt matters!

No John, the biggest problem is environmental kooks blocking exploration and production. If we were able to utilize the oil resources within our own borders, value of the dollar would not matter.

The biggest increase of oil is via out of control debt that killed the dollar.

Pleading With Our OPEC Overlords

President Bush is in Saudi Arabia today meeting with King Abdullah to lobby (beg) the monarch to have OPEC pump more oil to help ease soaring gas prices in the U.S. Abdullah is expected to turn him down, just as he did earlier in the year when Bush made the same request. America's position of vulnerability- exemplified by our president's current unsuccessful cajoling of a monarch in The Kingdom- is the result of dependence on a distant cartel for the economy's crucial energy sector.

Oil prices rose to a record of $127 a barrel today, which will continues to drive up gas prices in the U.S. Major cities including California, Chicago and Long Island are already experiencing $4 per gallon oil. If the current oil pricing pace holds, $4 per gallon will be the national average for gas by June 6th.

For all intents and purposes, America is at the mercy of our OPEC overlords to handle our soaring energy prices. This is what happens when we as a country are addicted and dependent to distant nations for our needs domestically. Other crucial sectors of the economy- like the nation's industrial base, which has seen 3 million jobs lost since 2000- are not far behind in moving abroad and as a result, increasing our dependence on imports. Unless drastic reforms are enacted, the result of our growing dependencies, will be a subversion and crippling of America's economic and military power.

As a former oilman, President Bush knows all to well that OPEC has got America by the throat

Bush laid out his plan in a March speech -- http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2008/03/20080305.html

John, are you willing to admit the real problem rests solely with the 'progressive' environmental movement? If not, you will soon after the next president is elected because all support Kyoto and further environmental restrictions to prevent oil exploration, drilling and refining.
