Saxby OUT, Rogers IN?
Rumors are flying that Georgia State Senator Chip Rogers has been approached to challenge US Senator Saxby Chambliss in the Republican primary. It makes a lot of sense. Chip Rogers would bring the Republican Party back to its conservative roots. The difference between Chip and Saxby is night and day!
Immigration and Trade
Saxby Chambliss strongly supports an immigration policy that unfairly pits tax payer-subsidized immigrant labor against hard working American families.
Saxby also does the bidding of his globalist, corporate masters by falsely claiming we need more unfair trade, more outsourcing (to countries like China and India), and more immigration to:
- Feed a labor shortage (How can there be a labor shortage if wages are falling?)
- “Do the jobs Americans won’t do” (Americans have always done our nation’s work—for a reasonable wage.)
In truth the purpose of his immigration and trade votes is to drive down wages on behalf of his corporate campaign donors.
Chip Rogers has been a strong and consistent leader, fighting on behalf of American workers and tax payers for the enforcement of immigration laws and to secure our borders.
Out of Control Spending
Saxby Chambliss has not found a pork bill he did not like: from the Highway Bill with its Bridge to Nowhere to the Energy Bill that gave billions to oil companies away while gas prices soar. Saxby’s irresponsible spending has put America close to $9 trillion in the red. The General Accounting office has warned Saxby that his addiction to pork spending will bankrupt our country.
Chip Rogers has been very outspoken against Washington’s pork spending and has earned a reputation as a conservative spender in Georgia’s statehouse.
Education
Saxby Chambliss is a strong supporter of the scandal-ridden, pork-filled No Child Left Behind legislation. Any honest school administrator will tell you this Big Government program has failed our kids and driven school expenses way up. The only winners are corporate lobbyists (who buy support for the program though campaign donations).
Chip Rogers strongly supports locally-not federally-run schools.
Wake Up the Republican Party
If you support a return to real Conservative values, please:
- Let Georgia’s GOP leadership know you support leaders we can trust to support our interests, not the big-money lobbyists. Tell them you support Chip Rogers over Saxby Chambliss for the US senate. [info@gagop.org]
- Forward this email to your friends
- Write or call Chip Rogers to encourage him to challenge Chambliss [chip.rogers@senate.ga.gov -or- (770)516-0543 ]

While writing to encourage Chip, be sure to include some portion of the $4M that will be necessary for a campaign to even begin (Chip’s number, not mine).
As a long time supporter of Chip Rogers, I hope he does decide to run. There are many factors he must weigh because a campaign of this magnitude will take away from time with his four young children and wonderful wife Amy.
Saxby is vulnerable on a number of fronts (the ag pork bills he has fought for as previous chairman of that committee should be at the top of the list). And of course his work to re-ignite discussion about immigration reform will be misrepresented as support for amnesty by demagogues like John.
Martha Zoller wrote a piece about a couple of state legislators touring the state to see if there is support for opposition to Saxby. Chip denies being one of those two. If Saxby’s poll numbers take a serious dip, you can bet there will be plenty of rumors about big time GOP opposition. But somebody better announce soon or it will be nearly impossible to raise the necessary millions for a competitive challenge.
June 13th, 2007 at 8:30 am
Bart
So I guess you heard the same rumors I did? I did hear the 4mm number as well.
June 13th, 2007 at 8:35 am
What do you think are the realistic odds that ANYONE will challenge Saxby in the GOP primary?
June 13th, 2007 at 8:40 am
Not necessarily rumors per se, more like a groundswell of hope that a bonafide Reagan conservative will offer himself as challenger.
caroline, I think it is at least 80-20 that a real, viable candidate will step forward. Saxby is vulnerable and politicians pounce when given an opening (unfortunately this did not happen in GA’s gubernatorial race last year because somehow Sonny fooled enough people to maintain a +50 favorable rating).
June 13th, 2007 at 8:42 am
What are the chances of knocking off Saxby in the primary?
June 13th, 2007 at 8:46 am
Bart
I do think Bart is right about Saxby being vulnerable.
In fairness I did not talk to Chip.I did not want Chip to be accused of coordinating with him to promote the idea.
But as Bart verified this is a wide spread rumor among many people we know.
June 13th, 2007 at 8:46 am
Depends on who runs. If Chip is the challenger and can raise the $4M entry fee then dedicate 24/7 to traveling the state with support from his colleagues in the state senate, the odds are pretty good. But that is a big IF because incumbency provides one with a major head start.
June 13th, 2007 at 8:51 am
caroline
If a candidate like Chip ran with money Saxby would have a hard time.
If the Democrats ran a guy like Marshall, Barrow…. the polls show Saxby is done!
Saxby has lost the trust of conservatives on spending, immigration,education…..
That is why Chip Rogers is the GOP best hope to keep the seat.
June 13th, 2007 at 8:53 am
As of the last reporting period, Saxby had over $2M in cash on hand

State Senator Chip Rogers raised $128,000 in TOTAL contributions since deciding to run for senate with about $66,000 on hand

It’s like jumping from AA baseball to the majors and taking on an starting all-star player when a state legislator decides to challenge a DC incumbent.
June 13th, 2007 at 8:56 am
John,
Marshall will be lucky to hang on to his House seat. Barrow barely held his and would go down as well if a strong GOP challenger steps forward. Neither would knock off Saxby or at least one would already be in the race.
June 13th, 2007 at 9:00 am
Bart
That only shows he and Marshall would pick up enoughs votes in a statewide race!
You can spin it anyway you want but the GOP best hope is Chip Rogers.
Marshall and Barrow did not flip flop on immigration like Saxby!
Saxby has lost trust!
June 13th, 2007 at 9:04 am
From Martha Zoller on Human Events website — http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=21073:
“In a background meeting of Republican activists last week, they were concerned that Sen. Chambliss will be challenged in the 2008 primaries. Republicans don’t like opposition to their sitting elected officials, but if they continue to show complete disdain for the voting public, they will have it. At this moment, there are two members of the Georgia state legislature traveling the state to see if they can garner support for a run against Senator Chambliss.”
June 13th, 2007 at 9:06 am
Bart
Do you think this article started the rumor?
Because I did start hearing about it a few weeks ago.
BTW if I would of known about the article I would of used it in mine.
June 13th, 2007 at 9:20 am
I wouldn’t equate Marshall and Barrow. Marshalls district is way more Republican than Barrow’s. Anyhow, neither seem to be interested in running for the Senate.
June 13th, 2007 at 9:24 am
Dems Push for Marshall Senate Bid
“The Shailendra family is very well known in Democratic fund-raising circles, but the invitation to the luncheon they’re sponsoring for U.S. Rep. Jim Marshall Monday makes it clear no checks will be requested,” according to the Atlanta Journal-Consitution. Instead, “the purpose of the luncheon is to encourage Marshall to consider the 2008 U.S. Senate race against Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss.”
Meanwhile, Roll Call reports that Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Rick Goddard was “on Capitol Hill on Wednesday meeting with Republican leaders as he weighs a challenge to Rep. Jim Marshall (D) next year.” Goddard, whom the NRCC tried to recruit in 2004, “met privately with House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) as well as National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Cole (Okla.) and addressed the GOP Conference at its Wednesday morning meeting.”
June 13th, 2007 at 9:30 am
John,
I have no idea when rumors started, but am confident they escalated as a result of Saxby working to solve the immigration problem.
As I stated already, anytime an incumbent registers below 50% in a poll, he or she is presumed to be vulnerable. The GOP is not going to sit back while a solid red state loses a senate seat.
June 13th, 2007 at 9:31 am
John,
Right now I am thoroughly disenchanted with both of our Senators. Chambliss will not get my vote regardless. In fact the GOP is on the outs after I heard several prominant southern GOP Senators touting the virtues of Ted Kennedy. The Immigration bill is set to be voted on in the coming days with additional funding for the border which is hoped will end the opposition. I suspect this time there will be no time for the people to look at it and respond to the people who represent us before the vote.
If Chip wants the support of the people I ask that he make a contract with us to ask us first before he votes. Our current Senators simply don’t care what we think. They do not give us credit for our intelligence or experiences in life. My brother has seen his profit per job drop from $200 a job to around $60 because other vendors use undocumented labor which they pay no taxes on their labor costs. They also don’t provide healthcare coverage or match Social Security. It is not just unskilled labor that is taking the hit. It is not just farm workers, it is every person who is paying a price at almost every level. Washington thinks they can say the sky os purple and we will all go along with them. Chambliss is out next term when I vote and Isaakson is not far behind. Why don’t you run too?
June 13th, 2007 at 9:39 am
John,
Have you any more evidence than that article? I haven’t seen any and I haven’t heard of Marshall making any moves toward running for the Senate. Of course, I’m not privvy to everything either so it’s possible that he might but I don’t think it’s likely.
What do you think of the rumors that Isakson won’t run for reelection? It seems that the GAGOP wants him to come back and clean up the mess that is the governorship and the the legislature. Or that’s what the rumor is anyway.

I am a long time reader and fan of your news letter. Do you think Chip Rogers will be someone who represents us instead of the special interest?
I am asking you because I appreciate the honesty in your news letter. I am an independent and share your views with my friends at times some of us do not agree, but it is refreshing the straight forwardness of your articles……
Please help can we trust Chip Rogers?
June 13th, 2007 at 10:45 am
In fairness I do consider Chip to be a friend of mine.
With that said Chip Rogers spoke out against Spending, immigration, trade and education in Republican meetings. At times you could tell he made party leadership uncomfortable with his frankness.
I do think if Chip was elected he would be strong enough to do the right thing! In fact I would him not only because I think he would make a great Senator, but he would also send a message to Washington their job is to represent us not the lobbyist!

Johnny Isakson is very afraid of Chip and has been meeting with him personally on the immigration issue. Saxby should be afraid, too. Chip should have run for Lieutenant Governor, not Casey Cagle
June 13th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
There is still an issue that seems to be missing from the discussions. Because of the silence, I feel like a one issue voter. The Fair Tax! This is NOT tax reform, it is a tax revolution. It will FIRST rip tax revenue control out of the hands of congress…unless ofcourse they want to come before their voters and say, “We’re going to raise you sales tax.”
It will fund the current budget. It will fund the current medicare payments. It will fund the current Social Security system. And you don’t have to worry about home many Boomers are retireing or how many fewer X or Y’s are working. It’s based on spending. It will make America a tax haven for business. It will bring 10 Trillion Dollars back into our economy that is hiding off shore. So, interest rates will plumit. We may have such an economic boom that we will be begging people to come work here. This is the most important piece of legislation since the Constitution. Anyone, ANYONE who says they are for tax reform is promoting the current ludicrous tax structure that is strangling this country. Where is the outrage at the socialist Democrats and the wimp Republicans. This whole mess is living up to my slogan, “The Country Formerly Known As America!”

Mr. Konop,

Tim,
Great point. Add the Fair Tax to the above agenda. As far as I know, Saxby is a supporter, but certainly nothing has happened in the senate to move it forward.
June 13th, 2007 at 3:31 pm
I served with Chip Rogers in the GA House. He is a terrific gentleman, has a mind like a bear trap, and is right on all of the issues. I know his dad who, like Chip, is respected by everyone who knows him. The prospect of his running for U.S. Senate excites the daylights out of me. I would volunteer every ounce of energy I have to see this man represent us in the Senate. He is just the one to show party leadership that we’re getting a little fed up.
June 13th, 2007 at 3:39 pm
ditto Roger.
June 13th, 2007 at 3:40 pm
Roger,
Do you think current legislators would go against the incumbent to support Chip?
June 13th, 2007 at 4:11 pm
Here’s Chip statement:
“I am humbled and flattered by the support of many who have asked me to run for United States Senate. My efforts in elective office have been solely focused on doing all I can for Georgia. I will continue to do exactly that – as a State Senator.
“The most important obligation I have is to my wife and four young children. The sacrifices they must make to support me in my current position are more than I would like. While there may be a time I consider higher office; that time is not now.
“I have great personal respect for both Senators Isakson and Chambliss. And while we may not agree on every issue, there is far more that unites us than separates us. I pledge my continued support to work with them to do what is right for Georgia and the United States.”

Can you tell me where Chip stands on Gay Marriage?
June 13th, 2007 at 5:24 pm
Re: Senator Roger’s statement in post #36:
I thought of Chip Rogers immediately when Chambliss and Isakson sold out America. At that time I thought his young family would need him home and not in Washington. His response was entirely predictable, and I certainly respect his stand.
I must add I am a little disappointed in his final comments re Chambliss and Isakson. While Chip Rogers might like the two personally, he must not waiver on how those two sold out America. I called both their offices and told the staffer that I thought it was an act of Treason to do what they had done. And I still feel that way. As much as I admire Senator Rogers for what he has done, I have heard him speak on the radio recently and he has been too supportive of the Republican leadership, i.e. still paying homage to the party leadership. And I don’t know that I would have done better. It’s not easy “fighting City Hall” as the expression goes. I have tremendous respect for Chip Rogers, I’m just making a point! We need a ton more of him!!!!!!!!!
June 13th, 2007 at 5:30 pm
Sorry, I also forgot to comment on a major flaw Chip Rogers had oin his speech. He said:
“And while we may not agree on every issue…”
He was in essence taking a pass on the Treason (my opinion) that Chambliss and Isakson had committed recently re this “Grand Compromise”. Chip was very wrong in saying that. Chambliss and Isakson can not be forgiven (at least while they are in office) and we must never forget!!!!!!!! This is not just “one issue”. It affects the very survival of the United States as we know it!!!!!!!!!!
June 13th, 2007 at 6:13 pm
You just hit on one of my new pet peeves. Everyone preaches separation of church and state…although it is not found anywhere in our laws. But, marriage is a religious institution. So, invite government to get the hell out of marriage. Everything other than the religious service and the linking of ONE MAN and ONE WOMAN is basically a tax issue. So, the government should be allow individuals to elect a spousal dependant…it could be your wife, brother, sister, girlfriend, boyfriend, or aunt Minnie. But, that is the only role government has in marriage. The marriage license should be issued by the church, synagogue, etc.
June 13th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
Would you have rather had Saxby sit on the sidelines and throw rocks at a Kennedy amnesty bill that would have sailed through the Senate?
Or, do what he was elected to do, which is to engage in the process and try to make legislation work for the people of Georgia?
The level of ideological purity you demand is unbelievable. Saxby votes how you want on abortion, taxes (he was the guy that introduced the flat tax in the senate), social issues, and the war on terror. He gets involved in a bill he had no control over TO TRY AND FIX IT and y’all are ready to kick him to the curb. In favor of a guy with no experience when we are at war with islamic terrorists?
Please just put aside what you think you know about this bill and LISTEN to Saxby and Johnny when they speak. They aren’t going to vote for a bill that keeps the border open and gives citzenship to illegals. That is what they have both said since day one. I’m not saying I think that this bill is a great piece of legislation, or that it will solve our problems. Just listen to our Senator’s reasons for sitting at the negotiation table.

June 13th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
eeevil,
Chip Rogers responded to a question at the Cherokee County GOP breakfast by saying that the entry fee would be $4M. If you don’t think it takes money to win campaigns, then that explains why you sit on the sidelines whinning and complaining without ever actually influencing elections.
Get up off the floor, take a big dose of reality and call me in the morning.

I have known Chip Rogers most of his life. He is firmly grounded and has a great head on his shoulders. I would be proud to support a young man of such great character and integrity. John, I approached Chip last week to consider running but he said his 4 shildren need

You forgot the farm subsidy pork that Sazby Rodriges sends to a small minority of
huge contributors on plantations. The small farmer doesn’t have a chance to survive because Saxby continues to provide plantation-farms with money to put ittle [backbone of America} farms out of cmpetition and then buys their land after they are forced with bankruptcy.
10 percent of farmers recieve over 70 % of subsidy.
I will forward latest figures on new subsidy plans.
Thanks for your efforts.

Mr.Konop
Saxby is pushing taxpayer money and also supplying slave labor to a few political
contributors that happen to own farm land. 19 % of farmers-plantation owners
recieve over 70 percent of subsidy money and they use it to competite against the
small farmer. after the little farmer goes bankrupt, the plantation owner that
uses illegal slave labor buys the small farm land at a cheap price and gets even
more subsidy next year. Do you think these plantation owners will will let Saxby
be defeated easily? I don’t think so !
The problem is that Saxby will kill the chickens before we can get him out of the
roost . It’s just like Medicare part D I tried to explain to you. After you give cart-blanch to a trillion dollar program law, you cannot revisit history. the
deed is done deal…the illegal aliens will already be voting citizens–Saxby
knows that they wilkl keep him in power becausethe plantation owners will still be in control.
We need to send Johnny and Sax to Teddie Kennedy’s plantation in Mass. real soon
or I am afraid there wil be another civil war with different plantation owners.
Somehow my family got left-out of the plantation business a few centuries ago
anyway, maybe I will fare better this time, but somehow I just don’t think so
Keep up the good work. I would vote for Chip in a heartbeat. I can understand why he don’t want to go to washington-he is honest family man..

Hope remains that Sen. Rogers could be pressured to run if Messr. Chambless and Issacson continue in their wicked ways.

Several of us in NE Georgia have an eye on Senator Nancy Schaefer. I love Chip, however he has young children and where this nation is going only those committed to death will be able to take the stands necessary. Relationships that are far greater than party lines and deep rooted in the love for this country, its Constitution and who will obey the voice of GOD can stand the force before us.
Go to her website
She was the first to co-sponsor the toughest immigration bill in the nation. Several States are using it as their guide. Also her own SR 124, which was defeated largely by the workings of the Chamber of Commerce at the 2007 Georgia General Assembly at the last moment in voting. The Chamber of Commerce set in motion it’s hidden agenda of cheap labor and business, by placing a flyer at every desk of the voting Senate within minutes of its vote asking for it’s defeat.
She was asked several times to come to the border by the Border Patrol and the Minutemen. She did go and is still being asked to be their voice.
She has 25 years of relationship with the conservative leaders of this country. She was asked recently to speak to CPAC (6,000 in attendance) in Washington. Rumors had it even then in Washington that they suggested she run for Congressman Charlie Norwood’s office.
Eagle Forum - Gary Bauer - Focus on the Family - conservatives - heartland people trust her, even her enemies salute her.
One thing I know you have to be able to win!!!
A suggestion.

June 14th, 2007 at 5:37 pm
James, re your post #52:
I wouldn’t lump Eagle Forum with either Gary Bauer or Focus on the Family. Eagle Forum is the Phyllis Schlafly organization and they are true blue pro America.
Gary Bauer and Focus on the Family have neo-con tendencies with their support of Israel over what’s good for America and the world.
James, while I’m against officially sanctioning Homosexual unions, I do believe we have bigger fish to fry!
June 14th, 2007 at 6:06 pm
John, re your support of Roger Hines in your post #44:
I agree with you. Roger Hines is one solid individual! I would support Roger also.
But with that said, I should point out that Roger supported the wrong candidate for Lieutenant Governor. Roger went with Ralph Reed, who I believe is near-evil, an establishment neo-con. While I liked and voted for Casey Cagle, my vote was more “againt Reed”. I would love to see Roger come out and say he was wrong about Reed.
And if anyone thinks I was too harsh in an earlier posting re Chip Rogers: Please understand I think the world of Chip and what he is doing. But I want to stay as focused as possible as to what is happening to our nation and who is weak and selling us out. While I know Isakson (and like him) and have met Chambliss, I’m gravely concerned re our nation. Isn’t that all that count?! Isakson and Chambliss have shown they are weak and must go!
