Senators strike deal on immigration

Does anyone not think that this bill was a sell out to large corporations seeking tax payer subsidized labor?

MSNBC-WASHINGTON – Key senators in both parties and the White House announced agreement Thursday on an immigration overhaul that would grant quick legal status to millions of illegal immigrants already in the U.S. and fortify the border.

The plan would create a temporary worker program to bring new arrivals to the U.S and a separate program to cover agricultural workers. Skills and education-level would for the first time be weighted over family connections in deciding whether future immigrants should get permanent legal status. New high-tech employment verification measures also would be instituted to ensure that workers are here legally.

They say this legislation is a thousand pages long with a million loop holes.
Mark Twain was right when he said when Congress makes a joke its a law when they make a law its a joke.

  2. Bill says:

They should just close up shop now and move operations over to Wall Street. Because after all the neocons think that government is bad.

I would rather pay higher prices for goods and services than increased profits to business owners and that’s what this bill does. I’ve yet to find information on the historical profit margins and capital investments of businesses who have converted to a mostly immigrant workforce. I want proof that businesses have extended their labor cost savings to the consumer and not just bigger pockets for business owners. While I’m a strong supporter of capitalism, I am opposed to taxpayer subsidized capitalism in exchange for increased government expenditures.

This is BAD legislation and frankly, I’m appalled at Senators Isakson and Chambliss for supporting it. Rewarding illegal behavior is the wrong idea and the Nation will pay dearly for doing so.

    Mac, re your post #4:

Friday was a tough day for the Americans when it looked as if the government was going to enact some “nation ending” legislation.

Today, Sunday, things look a little better. Appears the Traitors strategy may have back fired. It seems as if they figuratively brought out their big guns to cause the Americans to give up hope and roll over. We didn’t. We came back with astounding force, causing the Traitors to look for cover.

And Mac, what is now clear is that Isakson and Chambliss showed their cards. They appeared ready to sell out nation. Mac, we can’t forget. In my opinion, Isakson and Chambliss were complicitous to Treason! That’s the good think, don’t we always want to know who our enemies are? ps. to brag a bit, I never trusted either of them and never voted for either of them!
