Sickening Chinese Imports
Does anyone trust the FDA under Bush?
FOX-Report: Aqua Dots Recalled for Possibly Containing Date Rape Drug
Millions of Chinese-made toys for children have been pulled from shelves in North America and Australia after scientists found they contain a chemical that converts into a powerful date rape drug when ingested. Two children in the U.S. and three in Australia were hospitalized after swallowing the beads.
UPDATE

John, please let me broaden your question.
Does anyone trust any aspect of our government under Bush?

John, please let me broaden your question.
Does anyone trust any aspect of our government under Bush?
I certainly don’t. And remember, our entire congress is complicitous as they have not taken action to remove Bush!
Those evil GOPers…first they encourage the Chinese to make beads out of GHB, then vote to end child healthcare so kid will DIE IN THE STREETS after eating the beads!!!
John, note the FDA recalled the producet after the mass outbreak of 2kids getting sick.
Why do you want government to act as parent to all children? At what point is responsibility for parenting actually placed on the parents? — Something like “hey kids, the beads are for play, not food”. Or even better yet, use common sense and not buy the damn things because they might be eaten…f’n DUH!
Here’s a novel idea John. Don’t buy Chinese imports. Rather than blaming others, perhaps the parents who bought the toys should have read the package to see where they were made. Oh wait! That’s right….the GOVERNMENT is supposed to protect “the children.” How silly of me…….
It’s a shame these kids got sick. It’s also a shame they haven’t got parents responsible enough to read a package.
As for me, I like Chinese imports. They fit nicely into a tight budget.
What do you think of that David?
VOTE GOP! Vote FOR America!
Thank you for this informative post. A little research on the web regarding these toys leads to the offending chemical, 1,4-Butanediol. A little further research regarding this chemical leads to a list of products that contain it as well as a report of serious medical complications following its ingestion.

Do you guy want to have no safety agencies at all ? Consumers just buy all products at their own risk?
Sgt Mac,
If you like imports from Hong Kong / Japanese / Korean / Taiwanese / American / European -owned factories in China, fine.
If you don’t like imports from Hong Kong / Japanese / Korean / Taiwanese / American / European -owned factories in China, that’s fine, too.
Just don’t wreck the world trading system over it, OK?
David
Does this post bother you at all?
The world trading system? Are you kidding me? Do you really believe only 2 children were sickened? Children get severely ill quickly all the time – how many were not attributed to a stupid toy?
Buying toys NOT made in China is very difficult, they are just not available. At least for now, but I expect that to change really, really fast.
Joke about anything you want – but not about the lives and safety of our children and grandchildren. The system has failed completely and heads should have rolled months ago.
My daughter-in-law is getting a lead test kit from me before she gives anything to my precious grandchildren. Now that I have that under control, I have to worry about a date rape drug of all things.
Can anybody score me some aqua dots? What about you David? You’re over there in Hong Kong still right?
Why is all the blame on China and not the companies who make these toys? In the end, these toys could be made anywhere and the party who is responsible for the final product is the company who puts its name on the package! China has almost nothing to do with this recent “oh my gosh” over Chinese made toys. Why hold China and not the companies liable?
I am more and more convinced that the outcry has nothing to do with safety and everything to do with attempting to quash Chinese manufacturing and imports to the U.S.
History has shown that democracy, as well as wealth, follows the market economy. Why would we want to retard the incorporation of the market economy in China?

How can a communist country with limited humn rights have a free market economy?
China is not diving headlong into the change. They looked at Russia and, learning a lesson from them, are making a slow go at it. I’m sure David can go into great detail about it. What little knowledge I have comes from “The Commanding Heights.”
By blaming China and not the companies we do nothing but discourage that progress.
Aubrey
How do you compete with chld and slave wages , limited enviormental standards. work and saftey standards, NO IP rules….?
David O’Rear
You think we should do nothing about deadly products from China?
Mr Konop,
You live in America; I live in China.
You get hot and bothered about some subjects, I get excited about others.
You are currently all up in arms about tainted children’s toys. I’m getting steamed about entire ecosystems so polluted that millions of children are born deformed.
It really is a matter of priorities and local interests, isn’t it?
Sort of like “screw the workers, if they aren’t American.”
.
You think we should do nothing about deadly products from China?
—I don’t seem to recall much being done. Have the safety inspectors been asleep?
.
How can a communist country with limited humn rights have a free market economy?
—Who are you calling communist?
.
Oh, and the child and slave wages stuff is getting really, really old.
You do remember our discussions on the topic, don’t you?
Sure you do.
You brought up this nonsense and made it sound like it was official government policy, and therefore American shouldn’t trade with China.
I asked if this year’s case of the American couple (Chicago, I think) who enslaved their Indonesian helper meant that America had an official policy in favor of slavery, and should be subject to sanctions.
Remember?
That’s when you stopped commenting, remember?
Care to answer the question now?
I didn’t think so.
