TB SCARE!

Should Andrew Speaker be charged with a crime?

(CNN) — The man infected with potentially fatal tuberculosis is receiving treatment at a Denver, Colorado, hospital as federal health officials continue to track down airline passengers who may have been exposed to the illness.

The man has been identified by multiple medical and law enforcement sources as Andrew Speaker, 31, a lawyer from Atlanta, Georgia.

Speaker told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that health officials told him they preferred he not travel, but knew about his plans for an overseas wedding and honeymoon.

Speaker, who was not identified by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, told the newspaper he was aware he was placed on a no-fly list in the United States after his diagnosis with XDR TB, which is why he decided not to fly into a U.S. airport.

John glad you posted this because I ran across this today:

I am sure the ACLU will run to the aide of Mr. Speaker and defend him as they are defending Mr. Daniels.

Yes charge him and throw him in jail.

This will help to create a job for a correctional officer and help a lawyer looking for work.

    A win-win.

It sounds like Mr. Speaker may be having to defend himself since he is a personal injury lawyer.

His father-in-law is a CDC scientist who works in TB research! He obviously knew of Speaker’s wedding to his daughter and he let him fly anyway?

Yes. He could have made private travel arrangements.

Antibiotic resistant diseases are everywhere these days. Because Antibiotics are everywhere, especially in dairy products and beef. And some people STAY on antibiotics. Misuse of antibiotics has bred these creatures through a thing called EVOLUTION AND SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST!! If I had my choice I’d sit next to the guy on the plane and avoid any “contact” with any women who continually take antibiotics. And the only cure for antibiotic resistant bacteria is alternative medicine. Not quarantines or no-fly lists.

This scare scenario is fertile ground for the neocons. No fly lists, taking away rights, big pharma and mainstream medicine, ingnoring evolution. Sorry to disappoint you guys. Better luck next time.

Bill, post #6. Dude was told he was a health risk. He decided he wanted treatment in America (not Cuba, who has all those great doctors btw).

If he was contagious and others did get infected, was that a right action on his part?

  8. Bill Says:

Probably not. But they don’t need to go all the way to Russia to find antibiotic resistant TB. But if that’s weren’t the case do you really think that some type of “global quarantine” would stop it? The measures involved would be hideous…
I’m always amazed when people don’t look at the big picture. This is another assault on freedom. Of course with stopping disease you would get the best “bang for the buck” with some border enforcement. Right now some grotesque afflictions are walking this way right through the desert. Including a parasite that EATS YOUR BRAIN!!!!
