This is very cool

I saw this on ESPN.com this morning where I keep hoping to find that the Braves have signed a couple marquis pitchers (any combination of Peavy, Lowe, Burnett or Dempster will be fine).  Keep in mind that the optimum speed for a knuckleball is around 68 mph.

But, seeing as how Obama now wants to enforce a change in college football, I can see him wanting to apply affirmative action to professional baseball in light of this story.  Thing is, there are way more black guys in pro football and pro basketball (which is an awful sport, for the record) than white guys.  There’d have to be a sort of reverse affirmative action in those sports.  I wonder how ole Sharpy-Sharp would react to affirmative action working for whitey.

Anyway, I hope she kicks butt.

TOKYO — A 16-year-old schoolgirl is making a pitch to become the first woman to play professional baseball in Japan.

High school student Eri Yoshida was drafted by the Kobe 9 Cruise, a professional team in a new independent Japanese league that starts its first season in April.

“I always dreamed of becoming a professional,” Yoshida said at a news conference Monday. “I have only just been picked by the team and haven’t achieved anything yet.”

Yoshida, a right-hander who is 5 feet and 114 pounds, throws a sidearm knuckleball and wants to emulate Boston Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield.

Yoshida threw a hitless inning against male batters during a tryout this month and was among 33 players picked in the draft.

    Nice change of pace Aubrey.

Here is an opinion piece about the decline of blacks in baseball — http://money.cnn.com/2007/04/13/commentary/sportsbiz/index.htm

Keep it up, and you’ll be Grand Pooh-bah in no time.

    What?

DOR’s hitting the bong again Aubrey…he knows not what he is writing.

Grand Pooh-bah of what? His list of racists? Does he think this article is somehow racist in nature? The fact that I’m cheering on a school-aged Japanese girl to succeed in professional baseball?

I love the threats, by the way. I know that the Chinese and Soviets tried to kill John Wayne two times, but I’m no Duke Wayne and David ain’t Mao or Stalin. (The fact that Duke is one of the people I admire, and David . . . well, he’s a central planner.)
