White House slams Kerry for Iraq remarks

MSNBC

WASHINGTON - The White House accused Sen. John Kerry on Tuesday of troop-bashing, seizing on a comment the Democrat made to California students that those unable to navigate the country’s education system “get stuck in Iraq.”

“Senator Kerry not only owes an apology to those who are serving, but also to the families of those who’ve given their lives in this,” White House press secretary Tony Snow said. “This is an absolute insult.”

“This is the classic GOP playbook,” Kerry said in a harshly worded statement. “I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did. I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium.”

Does Kerry owe the troops an apology? Does this help or hurt The GOP in the mid-term elections?

No because he mangled a sentence. If mangling a sentence is a federal offense then W should be put in the pen.

I talk to some of my neighbors while taking my youngest trick or treating. They where talking about John Kerry’s comment. I do think this could hurt Democrats in some tight races.

  3. caroline Says:

Well, were they people who were going to vote other than republican? I have found that some people are just looking fro a reason to vote the way they wanted to in the first place. Do you think Rush Limbaugh is going to change any votes? I don’t. He seems to largely be preaching to the choir. This also puts the GOP on the defensive once again with having to defend their Iraq policy.

  4. JohnKonop Says:

I think Rush hurt the GOP big in swing areas.

I just picked up my oldest, and his freinds dad is a Democrat Veteran freind of mine was not happy about kerry comment.

  5. LeftHook Says:

Anybody prone to believing that Democrats are elitist and look down their noses at people who serve in the military will have that belief reinforced.

Those who don’t hate Kerry/Democrats will know he would never say/mean that, that it must have been a bad joke gone awry, and not have their beliefs changed.

Ultimately, it’s big nothing with no legs. No blood either way. Certainly nothing on the level of Limbaugh/Fox.

  6. caroline Says:

Well, there are people who aren’t happy about the Kerry comment because it takes the focus off Republican mistakes. It’s really a bunch of silliness that, once again, the GOP is overreacting to.

  7. JohnKonop Says:

    Lefthook & caroline,

I do not know the level of damage. As I said my Democrat Vet freind was mad!

  8. caroline Says:

Well, I guess he will be madder tommorrow when the story is how George Allen’s thugs beat up a marine who just wanted to ask a question.

    caroline,

    Do you have a link?

Kerry is smart. He could have said it alot differently and gotten more support from the “military crowd” where there’s a significant sentiment against “staying the course”. But he may have been alluding to a future draft. And “getting stuck” is something real strategists will avoid. So this resonates in different areas.

    ROFLLLL!!!!

    It’s CHRISTMAS on HALLOWEEN!

Not only did Kerry just step in it– he then came out and refused to apologize….

oh my sides hurt…tears rolling down my face from laughter!

Kerry was supposed to appear at two campaign functions tomorrow…but- it seems his schedule has changed…LOL!!

I have a feeling we will need to issue an Amber Alert to find Kerry, Pelosi, or Dingy Harry for the next week….

    Welcome to Rovember!

    ;-)

  13. Bill Says:

I didn’t say he was brilliant but he may be thinking about the future.

  14. JohnKonop Says:

Kerry is an elitist, which is why he turns people off.

  15. caroline Says:

No, Bush is the elitist. You guys always accuse Dems of your own shortcomings. And you create your own reality. Remember Bush the guy who never served as the conquering hero? And evil really proves all that with her statement. Apologize? LOL! When did Bush ever apologize for his lies? Never as far as I can recall.

  16. JohnKonop Says:

    caroline

I am not defending President Bush on the Iraq war, trade, spending and immigration, But come on Kerry is an elitist.

  17. caroline Says:

Why is he an elitist? Because he’s from NE? Sorry, John but that’s just something that the GOP made up. It’s made up just like Bush being a cowboy. Bush is afraid of horses.

  18. JohnKonop Says:

    caroline,

Come on John Kerry has elitist written all over him!

That is why he did so bad in Ohio.

  19. caroline Says:

So you aren’t going to back up your statement with facts? You seem to be proving my point. It’s all made up. He almost won OH but the reason wasn’t about being “elitist”. It was all about the massive fundamentalist turnout. Hey, though, maybe Americans have had enough of expansive fundamentalism. We shall see in the next few elections.

  20. Bill Says:

    Caroline
Being an elitist doesn’t have anything to do with being from the northeast. But people who went to Harvard, Princeton, or Yale are elitists.

  21. caroline Says:

Okay, then Bush is an elitist too. Even more of an “elitist” than Kerry because Kerry only went to Yale while Bush went to both Yale and Harvard. Bush’s grandfather was on the Board of directors.

  22. caroline Says:

Read about the entire Bush family elitism here:

  23. caroline Says:

Oops, now the GOP is having to eat crow because of this:http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/31/AR2006103100452.html

  24. Bill Says:

    Caroline
You won’t get any argument from me on that one.

  25. Jace Walden Says:

Thank God the majority of voters were smart enough to reject Kerry’s bullshit in 2004!

  26. caroline Says:

LOL! Because retreating from Bagdad is such a great thing!
